Can you not just insure the car as normal and then cancel the policy when you sell the car?
Yes you will lose out but check with your insurer what pro rata formula they apply...i.e. if you cancel after 6 months how much of the 6 months left will they refund you.
Or, you could pay monthly (on a 12 month policy) and cancel when you need to. There will be an administration charge if you go this way.

I'd go with the pay monthly option but check the cancellation fees.

Sure, the total for paying monthly ends up slightly more than paying in a lump sum, but if you're cancelling after 3 or 6 months it almost always beats the pro-rata refund formula insurance companies apply.

Try contacting some of the insurers directly, or a broker to see if they can offer what you want.
Also don't forget that most policies can be cancelled at any time and the remaining unused term refunded. The amount of refund will vary depending on how much of the term was used, e.g. it may not be exactly proportional and of course there'll be an administration fee as usual.
