Okay first of all i am not condoning filesharing or any illegal downloads, its just a question.

First of all i'll admit it, yeah i have seen a couple of blu ray ripped films, nobodys perfect.

But what i found weird is some of the the files size are around 3gb, yet have also seen ones that are 12gb+, now am i right in assuming the 3gb file is 720p and compressed so that it will only be viewable in HD on a laptop and the 12gb+ are specifically to be burned to a blank Bluray and are in full 1080p HD?

Again i am not agreeing with filesharing and copyright piracy etc... i'm only asking :)

Mods move this wherever you like just laptops were the 1st thing into my head!

Bluray discs are typically either 25GB or 50GB.

The disc isn't always 100% full, and it includes special features etc, but the main feature will still be a lot bigger than 12GB. I havent really seen many that come in at under 20GB, and it could be as big as 40-45GB.... It all depends on the particular movie, ie its length and how much bitrate they have given it.

Anything smaller is compressed and hence lower quality and/or lower resolution.
