An elderly relative bought a 28 inch Hannspree tv and asked me to set it up for her yesterday, the problem I encountered is that every time we select RTE 1 on digital it automatically shows subtitles which we can switch off but if we change channel and back again they return. Does anybody have any idea how to switch these off permanently as we can't seem to find a solution in the manuel or via Google (although I did find someone else with the same problem unresolved). Thank's in advance.:(

Had a similar problem recently with a Philips TV/monitor for my brother, manual was useless. There was no specific option to switchoff digital subtitles only analogue.

Eventually found that if I cycled thru the subtitle languages option in the menu and set it to no language (greyed out I think) the digital subtitles disappeared. I don't know the Hannspree menu but could be a Philips in disguise.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for that, I had tried it already and there was no blank or greyed out option, it's a really annoying problem as you can appreciate.:(

Reading this review (maybe not your model, but menu systems seem to be the same between manufacturers various TV series) indicates that they do come on by default, but can be turned off. You just have to have a good look through the menus if indeed the manual doesn't show you how to do it.

Ive set up a 19" and had the same problem.

    Menu > Features > Subtitle

    Analog Subtitle : OFF
    1st Subtitle : OFF
    2nd Subtitle : OFF

    :)

I saw this problem recently on a Hannspree also I think. Go into the options where you can see the Subtitle language, change it to a different language (I used Dutch) and they will go away. If you want subtitles later go to teletext pg 888.

Thank's people, switching subtitle 1 and 2 to Finnish ( I presume any other would work the same) solved the problem, another one has however has surfaced which may or may not be related posting in Satellite.
