engine conversions

    thinking of doing a engine conversion to my car and i just want to know the legal side of it.i want to do this completely legit and none of this crap of putting the engine in and saying nothing.its a 1.6 sohc civic coupe and i want to put a b16 into it or maybe a b18. just want to know how i go about it and would it be hard to insure since it a conversion.i am already able to insure cars with these engines as stock just wondering whats the story then when its a conversion.(hope this makes since)

    you have to decalre it to the tax office and insurance company if you want to be all above board. Not a honda head but b18 is in what? integra type r/ civic type Rs? If you can insure those you shoudl be able to get insurance on a lesser model fitted with one of those engines, but i wouldnt imagine you'd be making any saving though as that would count as quite highly modified. Changing the engine size details in the motor tax office is really easy though, so ther's no problem there updating the details to say it's now 1.8 instead of 1.6. Of course many people dont update it, but if you have a serious accident you're in huge trouble as you've got no insurance then if it's not all properly declared

    Check with your insurance company before you start spending money. Also check that all your existing ancillaries will fit the replacement engine! (or ensure that you get them with the engine).
