So myself and my cousin were talking just a while ago and we were trying to decide what would be a good game to buy?
I'm into any area really, but I'd have more of a tendency to go for Racing and Shooter's. He's more sporty as in Football and snooker.

But between us we could only decide on Fifa 11!

    I currently have a PS3, he has a PS2!
Years ago we could be entertained for hours with the original PS and games such as Fifa 99, Coolboarders, Driver, and Need for Speed! but now I just find myself bored within minutes!:(
I know the whole gaming area has never been better, and Im sure age (I'm 19, he's 21) has a bit to do with it but I see lads much older than both of us glued to their console's. They get so involved in the game they could sit there for hours but as I said, I get fed up easily and I just dont have the same love of games as I had years ago!
Maybe its just the lack of competition when you play a game on your own?
The last game I really enjoyed was Need for Speed Underground 2...on the PS2, but since that things have gone down hill, in my opinion!

I'd like to hear what the rest of ye think?..or is anyone in the same position?
    Thanks guys!

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 is one of my most favorite game. I have it on the PC and still play it from time to time. So much more enjoyable than the crap NFS is putting out nowdays.

I have to agree NFS Underground 2 was the last NFS I enjoyed playing as well. I don't like the way NFS is trying to "bling" up its games and trying to make it very realistic.
I had high hopes with the new Hot Pursuit but after playing the demo, it feels like instead of trying to take NFS back to its former glory of just plain arcade racing, what NFS has managed to do is take the worst bits from all the games it has brought out since Hot Pursuit 2 and put them all into one game under the Hot Pursuit label. Looks like NFS has let me down once again... Why can't they just make something like the original HP1 and HP2 just with better graphics and newer car. Why do they have to keep ruining everything with their crap gameplay and relentless bid to make it realistic... If I want realistic I'll play GranTurismo. Why can't NFS get that through their game development department!!

On the other hand though I feel FPS games are getting better... Not sure if I can say same about survival horror and action games. Uncharted 2 was brilliant but I still miss old Tomb Raider...

AHA!:D So I'm not the only one!
On the NFS topic, I played there last game at a mates house, cant even remember the name now, but I know it involved a drag race!
But my point being, since UG2 and Carbon, their graphics have got tacky looking in my opinion, everything looks like cheap! Maybe pressing X to select an upgrade package in the garage wasnt exactly realistic, but for me it was much more fun! :D

The PS3 is a serious bit of hardware, but I think the games are just muck, and way over-priced!

I've been hearing good things about the opposition x...whatever it is!;) Just dont know if its worth the move as I've always been a PS boy!

I dunno, i think the standard of games (taking graphics out of the equation of course) hasn't really changed over the years, i think it's just they way i play that's changed. 5-10 years ago i would have played games with my cousins and mates on some split screen, nowadays though i'm almost completely solo.

One gripe i have though is when i start seeing people going on about how 16-bit games are awesome and how they're so much better than games these days, that's when i start to roll my eyes slightly....

Yeah, for me the lack of some people to have a laugh with a bit of a downer!:(
You would assume things should be better than years ago, and maybe they are, its just me thats lost interest in playing games on my own!

The secret to good gaming experiences for me is:
    playing with other people

I don't mean competing against necessarily, just playing with them.

My best recent gaming memories are:

Playing Borderlands online in coop (as shallow as that game was)
L4D 1 and 2 in 4 player coop (every gamer should play that game with 3 other mates, don't risk playing with pubbies, IT. WILL. RUIN. IT.)
    RE5 in coop online
Playing LBP, Pixeljunk Monsters, Critter Crunch with the OH
Playing through GoW coop with my Bro-in-law

I'll also add all the time online and at the meets I spent playing SFIV (biggest thing I miss since moving to Canada)

When shared, a gaming experience can become infinitely better.

    This.

But I suppose split screen only required one console and one disc, as opposed to online play whch requires one consloe and one disc each (maybe plus an online subscription fee) so there's no big mystery as to why split screen is disappearing.....

It's definitely not better than years ago but it's also not worse either. Every new generation takes a while before the good games start really getting pumped out and I think we've reached that point last year. When you look back at the 16-bit era it looks like there were way more great games for the consoles then but those consoles had their whole lifespan while we are only halfway through this one.

Retr0gamer, thats a very good point actually! It never really crossed my mind but now that you say it, it makes total sense.
The last game I remember playing on the original Playstation was Driv3r....there was no competition in it, but I used always go on a free run and try to jump the bridges at certain times!:D

I hope you mean Driver and not Driv3r because the third driver game was beyond crap :)

I think you're just getting older & it would take something amazing to really make you sit glued to the console. there aren't many games where I can say I would play for hours and hours on end (the only reason I played for hours on end when I was a kid was because you couldn't save a sega megadrive game lol)
I remember getting really into FFVII when I was younger and sitting playing it for hours and hours and hours... then I got the PS3 and downloaded the game again & loved it even more the second time around. Maybe go back and play some of the older games... the new games seem to be more about the graphics than the gameplay I find? Although i do love Red Dead Redemption... its just addictive.

Oooops!...my bad! Yeah it was just Driver, and yeah...the last one was "beyond crap" as you said!:D

Now that you mention downloaded, are there any old games that can be downloaded to the PS3??

Plenty of PS1 games on PSN and some other oldies up there as well. A lot of them are excellent. It's recommended to get a US or Japanese account because there's some games on their stores that aren't available on the crappy european one.
