2004 Toyota Corolla Terra - CD Player Problem

    Hi,

I have a problem with my 2004 Toyota Corolla Terra CD player.

Since yesterday the only buttons that work are the POWER button, MUTE button, EJECT button and VOLUME knob. The others, AM:FM, TRIP NAVI, DISC, AF, TA, PTY, AST or SEEK TRACK don't react whatsoever.

The time is displayed but doesn't move.

I disconnected the battery for ten minutes, and it reset the player (the time reset to 1:00) but didn't fix the problem. I've attached a picture of the type of player.

    Anyone seen this problem before?

Have you tried the age old solution for faulty radio's. Good old thump and a bang:)!

Just go down to your local scrap yard and get another!

There are usually loads of Corolla's in yards smashed in crashes in this Country!;)

Want to see if there's an easier solution before looking for a new one...it may be awkward to switch out as it's built into the dash.

I'll try the ol' thump and bang method if no one has any better ideas...we'll call that plan B for now :D

If you're replacing, be aware the Japanese, Turkish, facelift and original model are different.

A common problem with this type of radio is kids putting money in tru the cd slot and it shorting out the printed circuit board. if you have the radio out shake it to see if there's money inside it.

    colm_mcm, thanks for the tip

beam99, definitely no money in the cd slot, no kids have been in the car in ages

looks like i'll have to give it to ol' thump and bang as jock101 suggested

colm_mcm, you seem to know a bit about this kind of car...do you know how to switch out the radio from the dash? do I have to take off the panel around the gear stick? and then work upwards?

    are there online tutorials etc?

    thanks!
