Using heavier bb's and adding a bigger spring?

Hey, I was playing at a site the other day when I guy said to me he had a sniper that shot Just under the joule because he added a larger spring but used heavier bb's(.28's I think), He said that it meant that his gun was shooting under the joule but only with the heavier bb's.
I was wondering, If someone did this with their gun(sniper, pistol, whatever) would they still be allowed to play with it using the heavy bb's? What about chrono, would he be allowed to use the heavy ones?
I'm just wondering if in case someone was allowed but got bb's mixed up with lighter ones during play

Sorry but this gun is illegal

The LAW is 1joule with a .20 bb using heavier doesnt make it legal

well the law is simply 1 joule, sites should be using there own bbs at a known weight for chronoing

joule is a measure of energy ( speed and mass of perjectile go together to give joule output )

    .20g at 328 = 1 joule
    .30g at 268 = 1 joule
    .40g at 232 = 1 joule

so if used a heavy bb and keeped it at 328 fps you would get stuff like this

    .20g at 328fps = 1 joule
    .30g at 328fps = 1.29 joule
    .40g at 328fps = 1.99 joule

Was this guy ignorant of the facts or just plain ignoring them? What site was this guy playing?

I'm sure you meant to say the law is 1 joule regardless of bb weight.

He knew about the joule limit, but I think he thought that by having to heavier bb so that it read under the joule meant it was ok. He didnt actually use the gun now, he said he had one(unsure if he still had it).
I was just wondering if it would be a risk as if someone accidentaly put a light bb in it

A 1 joule gun is a 1 joule gun no matter what weight the bb is, heavier ones go slower, lighter ones go faster, but always at the same energy level.

    kE=1/2M.V^2

Thats kinetic energy (joules) = half Mass (weight of bb) times velocity squared

Basically the spring in the gun defines its energy output, bb weight will only affect velocity but the energy level is the same, and is what is limited by law to 1 joule.

I'd rather not mention site names or players for their own good. The site is a great one and safety is a priority there and I said the player didnt actually use this gun.

I'd also say that it's a bad idea to name the mod for this thread by the way:eek::P

    Don't mind me being silly.
Had the same conversation with a lad ages ago, upgraded my Bar-10 to about 325fps with a .2g BB which had it just under with .28s, it was taken up the wrong way by the lad and he thought I was saying that it was 325fps with .28s.
