    Hi

Anyone on here a qualified tax consultant?
Just enquiring as to how happy you are in your career? Are most TC qualified accountants? I note that the big 4 - do not require all graduates to enter and train as an accountant first when going into tax?

    Anyone any advice?

Dedicated tax Consultants are not always qualified accountants per se. They are, in Ireland, Associates of the Irish Taxation Institute and carry AITI after their name.. as opposed to say ACCA.

I am currently in my final year studying to be a tax consultant. I am also a qualified accountant. I would say, having gone through accountancy has been a huge benefit to me, but there are alot of people in our class who are not accountants and are looking to move into tax.
The course is incredibly difficult, the commitment is huge. Alot more difficult than accountancy was. The benefit of going into a practice is, you will get relevant work experience (hopefully) and good study leave. The disadvantage is of course, the pay is crap while training! so depends on your financial commitments.
I do believe tax is a good area to get into, as there will be more jobs here in the future. Tax law is getting more and more complicated and everyone wants to pay less tax, so there will be more work for tax consultants.
If you are prepared to give over your life for 6 months of the year (course runs from Oct - May) certainly for year 3, then I would go for it!! If you know you want to get into tax, I wouldn't bother doing accountancy first. But you would need to be certain about that.
