was talking to a mate and money wise he think kidney will get the job.

i disagree 100% as i think he current international record is poor.

i like to see robinson get it, apart from the endland job he a very good coach. he knows the england team, scotland coach and he did a great job with endenbrugh so would have experince in the the english and magners leagues

he he does will with scotland this year in 2011 then i think he will get the job.

Gatland, in my opinion. He apparently has a release clause in his new Wales contract for it.

I doubt it will be Kidney myself but

    care to explain that?

Grand Slam, Churchill Cup, Coach of the Year and Irelands longest unbeaten run...

Hardly poor by any sort of standard.

Haven't a clue who will get the job but to say that Kidney wont because his International record is poor and then say you'd like to see Robinson get it just doesn't make sense to me.

Kidney has won the following and in my eyes that fairly impressive:
    • IRB U19s World Championship 1998
    • Celtic League 2002/03
    • Celtic Cup 2004/05
    • Heineken Cup 2005/06 & 2007/08
    • Triple Crown 2009
    • RBS Six Nations Championship 2009 (Grand Slam)
    • Churchill Cup 2009

I think Gatland will get it but after the Graham Henry farce I'd be slow to give it to a non UK/Irish coach again.

I read somewhere that the Lions don't want it to be a coach who is a Six Nations coach that year. That narrows down the field a lot.

i believe they are also looking for a coach with previous lions experience. either as a player or coach. this could be to try and eliminate some of the problems henry had on the last tour to oz.

thats why people were talking about gatland so much last week. even mcgeechan was mentioned too!

it rules eddie o sullivan in very much so though. a good performance, relatively speaking, at next years world cup wouldnt do him any harm. it is very much a long shot as he is away from top class rugby though.

I think its time to McGeechan out to pasture he hasn't been a top class head coach for a long time now.

Great servant of Lions rugby but he's done enough.

I'd have McGeechan as the tour manager. Nobody has given more to the Lions and it would be good to have his experience on tour IMO.

That leaves the coach. Who knows? A lot will happen between now and 2013.

Are we gone past the days of his teary eyed speeches though?

Very true on the second point. In May 2007 EOS was hot favourite for the 2009 job

All signs pointing to Mick Bradley so.:D:D

Andy Irvine has been appointed tour manager, i'd say McGeechan or Gatland (with his wasps mgt team) will be appointed. I actually wouldnt be suprised if EOS got the nod, he'dbe free post world cup, has already been on a Lions tour and has a strong 6N's record.

I cant see Kidney getting it, not sure why tho!

A reaction to his fall from grace in the context of how things can change in a relatively short time frame. Not a slight on his coaching ability

At least by 2013 all the Irish players he maligned won't still be playing.

    Jesus that's very harsh.

I'm not a big fan of his and I dislike his media mutterings but he's still a top class coach. Remember where Wales were before he and Edwards came on the scene.

gatland is a bit of a fool with the press. but he is one of the top coaches to coach the game.

i prefer him to kidney. gatland has a greand slam too and he did a year after wales for knocked out the word cup by fiji

If he can get a second Championship or better yet another Grand Slam out of what is a very talented Welsh team then fair enough he can claim to be a top class coach. They've regressed since 2008 though and personally I was surprised they extended his contract by so much

If Johnson wins the next six nations with england he'll be favourite. The Lions are big on their coach having Lions playing experience. Johnson captained them to their last 3 test victories prior to the 2009 3rd test. Thats a big 'if' at the begining of the post though!
