Buyer tries to keep goods and ebay refund money

I just got a successful outcome on a dispute from over 2 months ago. Simply put, a buyer on ebay won an auction from me and requested that I ship the items fast as he was leaving the country in 2 weeks time.

I was a little annoyed he bothered to bid on my items, as I had plenty of buyers and no need for him to win, and then he starts hassling me BEFORE I even shipped the items. Why didnt he look for an auction in his own country rather than buy something from Ireland to France and even RISK the slow post?

Oh well, I was stuck. And dont you know - its always the one package you hope will get on time that doesnt. I paid the highest price possible from AnPost to deliver as quick as possible to France, registered, signed for and all that. Low and behold in about 8 business days he had a case open against me claiming non-delivery.

I tried to reason with him, sayng he needed to be patient as it would either turn up, or I would open a case with AnPost claiming the item was lost. Not good enough for him and he escalated to ebay. As you can guess I lost the fight with Ebay as my tracking info did not show "delivered". It simply showed NO UPDATE for several weeks.

Eventually I was forced to refund the money - buyer was happy he had beat the system, and I was convinced he got to keep the goods and the money.

I opened a case with AnPost, not expecting much to come of it. But I was wrong, they wrote back that the item was delivered, no anwser at address however, and a note was left behind. Once they updated the tracking info with this info - I was straight on to Ebay for an appeal.

Result! Buyer had no leg to stand on and lost the appeal - obviously caught red handed with my goods and money. Victory for the common seller and defeat for the dodgy buyer.

You won the case, but did you get your money back from the buyer?

Similar things have happened me before. Items dont get delivered and as soon as a claim with An Post is opened suddenly its magically found.
    Amazing that!

When I was forced to pay the refund - it was actually paid to Ebay. I presume they paid him directly, and then billed me for same.

Now, I got a refund directly from Ebay for that same money. I would like to think that they are billing the Ebayer, but I doubt I will ever know for sure.

Just an update for anyone that cares...

I did get my paypal refund, but only for one of the 3 items. I have suffered two evenings sitting in front of EBAY "human" chat support and got nowhere. They say they have issued me a refund, and yet they havent even sent an email to confirm it - and no monies have appeared for the other two items.

Obviously the issue is that the buyer won 3 seperate auctions, and ebay rolled them up into one single transaction. BUT when he appelaed, they did 3 seperate appeals. Now, when they look into their system to see if they paid me, they (i guess) see one transaction, one refund. Even though i have opened three seperate appeals.

I am now appealing the refunds i paid ebay thur paypal - not sure if that will work - but that is actually what the ebay chat support said before they hung up on me.

What an incredibly useless customer support system they have - no way to know a user is havign a genuine issue - no way to resolve it. They can simply ignore the peoblem and hope it goes away.
