Just wondering if anyone has taken up the offer of 1250 + VAT sub a year and 5000 entrance fee payable up to the age of 30. I'm going to give them a ring later on today to get all the stuff posted out to me. Seems like too good an offer to refuse.

From what I can gather after you turn 30 the sub goes up. You have to pay a sub of €3,500 odd a year which is a bit of a catch.. that could have changed though but was the way

I'd be waiting another year or two before I would consider joining, just take out an annual membership if you consider it good value

Seems a strange offer, typically the younger guys are the ones who will want to play the most? Will the course not end up jammered?

They are proposing something similar at my golf club this year in a desperate attempt to hold onto younger members.
If you are aged 20-26 you pay half the full sub and 26-30 you pay 75% .Full rights membership I believe.

I joined myself on this offer last month, got the end of this year for free and paying the 5k in stages over the next 5 years aswell so less pain.

Fee goes up to 2,200 from 30-35 so its not straight into the 3k,

The reason for the drive is to lower the age profile to get some younger members in, have to say the service and course are incredible and there is a really nice chilled club atmosphere

    So far so good!!!

I think this is a great way to attract young members, but I just wonder whether it is actually legal? I know car insurance companies charge different premiums based on age, gender etc. and this is legal, but charging different membership rates based purely on age?

This is a bonus for being young. No one is getting charged more for being a specific age. The full rate is the full rate.

IMHO Killeen Castle is not worth the money.
There are other clubs not too far away which have very good courses at substantially less cost e.g. Knightsbrook, Rathcore.
If money/value is not an issue then Killeen is alright as a course.
However it is not up there with the K Club, Mt Juliet, Druids Glen.

Incidentally I played Mt Wolsley, Tullow a few weeks ago and the 4ball I was in thought it was simply fantastic. Great test and wonderful ambience. I will be back in the Summer.

Have to disagree on the above. It is far better than Druids. Not up there with Mt Juliet and when it matures (hopefully) it will be up with K Club. Just my thoughts.

I haven't played it myself but I have heard nothing but good things. Plus the practice facilities are second to none, even better than Carton House again never seen them but I have heard it from anyone I know who has been there. To be honest I would be as interested in the practice facilities as the course and for the money the combination of both being top notch the value for money seems brilliant.

I gave them a ring and I am still waiting to hear back from them. I am going to give them a ring at lunch today if I don't hear anything back. But I think I will defo be taking them up on the offer.

Just got a call back from them and the General Manager is going to ring me later to organise a meeting with him to view the course and facilities. All sounds good.

I just have a quick one for you Diageo did you get the offer on the Website/the one I mention in my original post. I was just wondering in case you bargained them down or managed to get anything thrown in with your membership.

One thing you should bear in mind if joining Killeen is that very few members play in competitions, resulting in artificially low handiaps. A friend of mine joined last year playing off 10, he's now down to 6 because he's won 3 or 4 comps there without breaking 30 points. Because there are so few entrants the SS is usually very low.
If he plays in any other club he can't play to his h/c.

    Senior Championships here I come!!!:D

To be honest I don't really see that as a bad thing. There is a minimum number of entrants/finishers required for a SS to be calculated. I don't remember off the top of my head but if the minimum number is reached it all seems fair to me. Plus I doubt that anything below 30 points allows you to get cut even if standard scratch is less than it. There must be some ruling for handicaps around this.
