    Hi Folks,

I was running yesterday on what is a pretty normal route for me, involves a couple of miles on the road to get to a path/trail for a few miles and onto grass for a few before a couple of miles on the road to get back home.

What kind of runners should I be wearing for this type of run ?
I have been wearing my normal Asics 2150s but now that the ground is getting a bit messy/slippy I find I'm sliding around a bit not to mention destroying my runners.

Should I looking at a pair of trail runners, if so how are they for running on the road ? Anyone recommend a good brand of these as I haven't had a pair before.

    Cheers
    PK

As soon as I started to run with any kind of regularity I got gait analysis, and they gave me a totally different pair of runners to what I had. I got it done in that place on Parnell St in Dublin [Running Works or something along those lines]

I have flat feet and was suffering from sore knees a bit before in off the shelf runners, in these new runners [nike+ ones, no idea what type]. I dont have any kind of problem like that.

He told me that if I was to start doing long miles I should come back and get different ones. Since Im doing just that now I will go back in there after christmas or so.

PK I'd like to know too. Presumably there are hybrid-type shoes on the market catering for both surfaces. My experience of full-on trail shoes is that they feel like lumps of lead when on the road. I'm sure the cross-country types on here will have some suggestions in a minute.

I recently bought a pair of Salomon Wings XT which I use for normal training runs on grass and trails instead of my ASICs 21x0. They feel a bit heavy, especailly on tarmac but the support is very good which suits me right now.

The way i'd do it would be, if running on mud/grass/park wear my normal runners and just run a little slower if the ground it really bad. If I need to do some fast running find some good grass or road for sessions.

The runners wont be destroyed... just dirty ;)

    Thanks folks,
I think I'll go with what you suggest shels.
From what the rest of you are saying the trail runners don't really sound like something you'd want to be doing a lot of miles in.

Trail shoes have differn't make ups.I think shels is just a little tight to splash out on a pair of trails shoes:p
No seriously lets take for example the 2150's which you wear I would go for something like the asics trabuco(has the support)but also the comfort.
There are many options out there in differnt brands.
Having the traction gives you the confidence underfoot and will help avoid injuries. You will get your moneys worth in irish weather.

    Saucony exodus
    Brooks Cascadia
    Adidas Kanadia
    Nike pegasus trail
    Asics enduro,trabuco and trail attack.
they are just a few options along with Innovate and Salomon
