    I've a 2005 VW Golf.

When the weather is cold the brake lights come on by themselves, this morning when i got up they were on. It happened last winter too.

Has anyone any experience of this? How did you fix it?

It might be a dodgy brake light switch. Inexpensive and relatively simple to replace.

A very common problem is the brake light switch.

Happened to me in Dublin at night where the brake lights stopped working totally. Very lucky the first garage I came across had one spare.

    hi thanks for the replies.

I did some research into it yesterday, the problem happens when the car is parked up at night in cold weather.
It came up when i goggled the problem that in cold weather the break fluid contracts slightly and may cause the brake pedal to compress which causes the break lights to come on.

I'm going to top up the brake fluid and see if this solves it. If that doesn't work i'll do the brake light switch
