I'd post this in the motors section, but I'm currently 'exiled' from there! :D

As the title says, I need about a gallon or two of kerosene, does anyone know where I might get some? Thanks.

    plain old kerosene?

    A petrol station :D

More so out in the country. It's usally round the side tho :D

A lot of them don't have clear signs so you might have to pop in and ask. If they don't have it, they may know the nearest garage who does.

Yeah, its just that I've never seen for sale at petrol stations.

The kerosene 'helps' the diesel emissions at the NCT test! :D

I know that it can be bought from a home heating oil distributor here in Kerry. Think it has to be a 5 Gallon drum (or litre equivalent). Worth a phone call to a small time oil distributor. My mechanic buddy recommends it also for a smokey diesel engine.

I live in Longford, a few petrol stations round here sell it. It's a pump rigged for 2. 1 for kerosene, 1 for agricultural diesel.

Most places have a sign, some do not. Generally the pump is located away from the main pumps so usually at the side. This is so big farm vehicles etc can get access to the pump. Ask your local station owner, he would know if there was 1 nearby. Or ask a farmer. You pay for it by the liter like petrol etc. It's usually same price as green diesel so about 79c a litre

Is there not a risk with this if you are dipped by customs & excise??

Is it common practice to dip ordinary cars? They would have to have a good reason to surely?

Only going to use it once for the test, then if it passes, fill it up with diesel again. Worked wonders on our old diesel Sierra we had.

    Our central heating uses diesel.

The term 'law unto themselves' springs to mind everytime I hear the Customs mentioned. They don't do anything unlawful but they have immense powers and whatever they do will always be backed by their superiors right up to the Taoiseach.

I won't for a moment say that they don't do this State a great service and do a difficult job. From personal experience they can be overly sticky, for want of a better word.

My closest station that does it is a Topaz, was statoil before that so the best bet is to pop in and ask really :D
