I'm not drunk or trying to toll but seriously... what happens when you're supposed to handcuff someone and they have no arms (or just no hands) ?

I wonder has anyone else ever thought of a ridiculous situation where an exception to the norm has to be made

If you don't have arms, it would be pretty difficult to fight somebody off I assume.

    Maybe cuff their legs?

"Seriously" is not the word you're looking for.

Pretty sure handcuffs are to restrain someones hands so they don't grab the officers gun or another weapon. Someone 'stumping' a garda in the face probably wouldn't do much damage tbh...

Why would you NEED to handcuff someone, to stop them using their arms to hit you etc, when they have none???

Kids not being allowed to play on Sundays because one dude wants to sleep in, springs to mind.

Surely the need to handcuff them is removed if there are no hands. I presume the handcuffs are intended to restirct hand movement. No need to do that if the person has no hands or no prosthetic ones.

I would leave em off, they are armless.

Kids should be seen and not heard !!during the day

That's an enthralling situation OP, there's no end to the fun you can have with that premise.

What does a cyclist do if he has no head!? He can't wear his helmet!

What does a footballer do with no feet!?

What if you're trying to pull a chick, but you can't make the usual eye contact because she has no eyes?

yeah but you can survive with no arms. What happens if you have to run after an armless person and arrest them? You're basically going to have to hug them to stop them from getting away

Taking a step back OP, what do you reckon this poor armless soul would have done to deserve incarceration?

Gave the Garda the finger...and the rest

Roll your eyes at her, if she picks them up and rolls them back, you're in.;)

I reckon the police would get a handle on it and cuff the ankles in case they try to leggit.

Well, a handcuffed person could run away...I don't see why they would go further just because that person has no arms

    True, but the OP asked,
what happens when you're supposed to handcuff someone and they have no arms (or just no hands) ?

Though how they'll manage when it comes to fingerprinting is anyone's guess.

I'm going to raise the bar a wee bit here and surprised it has not being mentioned already but what about a person with only one arm. What is that one arm going to be handcuffed to?

That is good, can't think of a suitable answer atm, (too much vino)
At least he's able to scratch his arse, unlike the poor basterd with no arms.

    the arresting officer's arm?

    the arresting officer's arm?

But would guess that there are situations where this is not plausable either?

Like an armless garda making the arrest!

Well that did spring to mind at first but then again realistically its unlikely you would get into the police force with no arms! Was thinking more of a situation in a street where the arrested was putting up a considerable struggle, kicking and whatnot but no railing or anything to cuff him too...Maybe Im over analysing the whole thing though:o

There has been some hassle around here recently with a requirement some banks have to have an index fingerprint in order to open an account.

Eventually someone without an index finger tried to open an account, the bank didn't have a policy or procedure in place for such an eventuality.

You have a similar problem if you lose a finger in an accident. (or for any other reason, such as torture, punishment, or a self-mutilation fetish.)

    NTM

    His pants?

He could probably still use his hand to undo his fly and wriggle out of them leaving a one armed trouble maker wearing no pants and handcuffed with a pair of pants flying from them free to run off down the street.
