    Mooching about for some new duds online, and I was struck with a thought;

Why do male models posing in suits all do that poses where they're pricking about with their cufflinks?

Is it prime suit modelling pose? Does it show off the suit to its best?

Have we any male models here on AH? I'm going to say we have at least 15 or so, judging by the suaveness most of us ooze. Can you explain to me the reasoning behind this pose?

I do actually like a good suit, will be looking for a new one soon, prehaps a single breasted 3 button with waist coat, oh, and you need cuff links.

I wear suits daily, and I'm on the hunt for at least 3 new suits.

One for work. Not going to spend a massive amount on this, as long as it looks good, and wears well.
One for special occasions. Willing to spend more on this, want to look dapper. Won't be an every day suit, so I'm looking for something a bit nice. Thinking about getting one made.
One for my wedding. This is probably going to be a rental, but the one I want is proving hard to find. 1930's gangster style, Michael Jackson Smooth Criminal type only in black, not white.

I like wearing suits as it makes me feel manly and sophisticated. (You have no idea how many times I had to type that to get it right. Kept spelling it Sofiztikated! :pac:)

I only have to wear business casual for work but use any excuse I have to wear a suit.

I personally don't like three button or one button suits, or ones that have no vents. So I stick to two button suits and generally go with light coloured shirts that contrast with my complexion.

    tl;dr - +1 on suits.

Because most men who buy cufflinks spend a lot of time looking at them and wondering why they paid so much money for a pair of stupid cufflinks. Either that or they're James Bond looking for the switch for the laser.

Suits are the most stupid garment ever invented. You may be appropriately dressed for the occassion wearing one, but you're never dressed properly.

You're either freezing, boiling, choking or worrying about crumpling the bloody thing.

An expensive suit makes you look like a ponce and a cheap one like a used car salesman.

Show the shirt cuffs to make the suit look better. Men's suits tend to be normal, darkish colours so that shows a bit of colour.

yes there are some bad suits out there, but if the right cut and design for the indivudual, and looked after properly, they can really look the part.

I think it has something to do with the fact that vanity/posing isn't considered an attractive trait for a male.
In old advertisments for men's clothing, you'd see the man pointing/looking into the distance, etc.
This came to be seen as cheesy and was widely mocked.
So now you see the models adjusting their cuff-links, etc.
The basic idea is, i think, to create the illusion that the man being photographed is unaware of the camera and so is not posing.

An actual answer in AH? And not one mention of the Government, NAMA, or religion. My faith in Boards has been restored!

I always liked the "Look, Samuel, look at that over there!" pose. Sometimes fashions change for the worse. :(
