    Hi there,

I think i must depression, in fact im certain. What i am really asking do anti-depressants actually work? I have a highly addictive personality ao i am fearful if i go on them will i ever be able to stop taking them i.e. they might become a crutch. Although i really need to stop feeling the way i feel as it is just too heavy on my psyche. I dont want to go around like a zombie either (ironic as this is what i am now) , do they just zone you out or do you feel a noticable effect on your mood?

Anyone any advice on anti-depressives and how do they make you feel?

    Thanks

Its hard to say because I'm sure they work differently for everyone. I can only tell you my experience. They definitely didn't make me feel like a zombie, they really helped me to feel happy and have some energy aswell. I still got a few down days but they were nowhere near as bad as before I took the meds. I was able to have motivation to do things and to enjoy things too. When I started on them my doctor told me how long she would like me to take them, and I have had regular visits to see how I'm doing. I started to come off them a few months ago like we planned. I have to say that I was terrified and had many doubts about stopping, because of how I great I felt. But I can't really depend on them forever.

Don't worry about becoming addicted to the feeling. You will work with your doctor who will recommend if its time to stop taking them. But they don't just make you numb, or at least they didn't for me. I went to counselling too to learn some ways on dealing with my feelings. This is very helpful for me coming off the meds, as I can identify how I react to things, and situations that get me down and work through it myself.

You need to go talk to your dr and find out what is wrong first and foremost and then worry about what meds you are given rather then making assumptions.
