    Hi Chaps and Chapesses,

I have a client who deals a lot in the Middle East and is currently looking at Iraq. My research tells me that generally it is peaceful now - well, compared to the last few years anyway. So, my question: do any of you do business there now or do you know anyone else who does that we could maybe meet up with or have a quick phone chat with?

A friend of mine supplies fixtures and fittings in the middle east. Big demand in iraq as they keep blowing up the existing. :)

Iraqs not the place to be going if health and safety are a priority in your life...

Try Kurdistan, massive investment flowing in as the self ruled state of Iraq is very stable and well secured.

I have a few irons in the fire there but not something I'm willing to discuss with a stranger ;)

I spoke to someone, last night, who is out there now and he says it is quite peaceful and not at all as bad as had been shown on TV.

Yeah, I believe Kurdistan is worth a look. Unfortunately, the opportunity he has lined up is in Baghdad so he'll be concentrating on that first. What's the easiest way into Kurdistan? Overland from Turkey or Baghdad? Or by air?

43 in a week? You'd get more than that in a day in "peaceful" places like, say, South Africa....

I have a bit of work in Saudi and the guy I deal with has sold stuff on to Iraq. He won't go there himself as he says it mental and he would be going via Kuwait and up the main road to Baghdad which is the best protected route.

Are you just looking for a middleman there or thinking of going out yourself?

It's a client of mine who is looking at it. I'd say he'd prefer to deal with it himself. He's probably going to fly directly into Baghdad Airport. There's a few Airlines serving it now.... I wouldn't mind going along at all!!
