Hi there - just looking for your help........ anyone used www.alldesignerglasses.com - cause their prices are keen and i have family in US so wont have to worry about international shipping or custom charges?

Priced D&G frames here @ €285 and available there for $106 ?????

How much could i expect to pay here for optician to put my prescription lens in or should they give me my prescription ????

Fitting the prescription varies from place to place get a quote from a few places. As regards your prescription once you have paid for your prescription it's your property. By law if somebody asks for their prescription the Optician is obliged to issue you with it. In the UK they have a better system the Optician automatically has to give you your prescription. If you are buying lenses online ask for your pupil distance. This measurement is not a requirement in your prescription but it makes ordering your lenses more accurate.

Be careful with buying varifocals online. The methods used to measure heights is a bit vague and you could easily end up wasting money. That's why I don't sell them on my site.

Can you give us an idea as to what VE were quoting you for? It sounds very expensive unless you are getting a high index varifocal lens with transitions and antiglare. If you wouldn't mind posting up some of your prescription just to give me a better understanding.

Shop around visit a few independants with your prescription. You could be surprised at the value to be got out there. Even ring them up and quote your prescription they will be able to get back to you fairly quickly with a price.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I got my perscription from my optician but I forgot to ask for my pupil distance. What's the best way to measure it? Do you ask someone to hold a ruler above your eyes and then get them to measure from middle of one pupil to the middle of the other. I have a really strong perscription so I think my Pupil Distance needs to be very accurate if I want to get specs online.

The pd is easy to measure it's basically the distance between your eyes. Get somebody to rest a ruler on your nose position the zero point at the centre of your pupil (the dark bit) and while you look straight ahead (don't focus on any close objects as this could cause your eyes to converge i.e. turn in closer together) read off the measurement at the centre of the other pupil and that is your pd.
