GP Stitches

Hi, not sure if this is the right forum for this but I couldn't find anywhere else.

I was just wondering if a GP would give stitches? - I think I might need a few in my index finger after a bad cut. Happened about 2 weeks ago but not really binding back together to my satisfaction.

Would my local GP do this or would I need to go somewhere else?

    Cheers

    T

Gp might do it but if its anyway deep you are best off going to your local a&e to get seen by ortho/plastics to make sure you don't have any tendon damage.

To get stitching done you need to get the wound seen within 12 hours.
Really sounds like to do need to see a Doctor ASAP though.

I would urge caution with GPs suturing wounds. Not that they dont have the competancy for it - but in certain circumstances, a wound requires more formal treatment than just suturing eg fight bites.

in addition, a wound that is 'not right' after two weeks might have other problems associated with it.

bottom line - Get your GP to take a look at it but dont be surprised if you get sent to your A&E Dept or wound management clinic

My GP did it for me wen i was bout 7 or 8. Was bit of an emergency though. Got struck on the forehead with a golf club. Fun times.
On the plus side i was the coolest kid in school for a while with the blue stiches in my head :)
