Bus Éireann should be updated

I've been thinking about this for a while and I really think bus eireann need to update their whole ticket checking and printing system. And also adding more intelligent computers to their buses.

In this day and age there are loads of ways for a system to communicate with a base station and share information to other buses and stations around the country and I think they need to do this.

First of all, The tickets. I buy a return ticket every week to Cork from my home town, And every second week on the return journey the bus driver looks at my ticket as if I'm using it more times than I should of, This although isn't really very time consuming is a bit irritating and a digital ticket system would be a lot quicker to scan, and will make it easier to make sure how many people are on the bus instead of counting how many.

Also, I don't know if this is a big issue, but the tickets at the moment would be seriously easy to copy, if this is happening a lot a newer more intelligent ticket system would prevent people being able to scan and copy tickets with a home 'all in one' printer.

My next issue is connecting buses, I've missed so many by seconds due to traffic while travelling to the station of my connection, and it really is quite annoying to arrive and see your bus leaving the station, I'd run after it but the one time I tried that I nearly got ran over, and I don't think there should be a need for that.

All they would need is a system on the bus which can tell who's still on the bus and their final destination, And it sends updates to a base station by 3G or by wi-fi at other stations, This along with some sort of real time tracking system would mean that if a bus is within 4 minutes of the station and it's three minutes to the hour the bus could wait for the passengers catching the connecting bus.

I'd have no issues with waiting a few minutes later if It meant me and many others could catch their connections instead of waiting 2 hours for another bus or arranging alternative transport.

Does anyone else think something like this is needed?

How do you know the bus would not be waiting necessarily due to no passengers wishing to connect?
