Just reading in the paper that Adidas has ended all Irish running sponsorship, including the Marathon and the race series after loosing a couple of million quid here over last couple of years.

Lets hope the organisers can find replacement sponsors :(

With the talk of the marathon been televised live next year I'm *assuming there is already another sponsor lined up.
    *guessing:eek:
I know we're in difficult times but there are many big companies doing very well and with the big numbers taking part in the road races it would be worth while for companies having their brands plastered all over big events.

The Anglo Irish Dublin City Marathon anyone:P

Adidas and Lifestyle are pulling out of the race series and marathon, but they were paying* for a bunch of students to do surveys about them** as we exited the Expo last weekend.

    * Probably no money involved, they were students and would work for a free diner.
** Possibly organised by the marathon itself to get a sample opinion on marathon runners shopping habits in Lifestyle and Adidas so they can persuade new sponsors in.

Reading Jim Aughney's interview in the IR he does'nt mention anything about looking for a new sponsor, and says at one point that 'perhaps the new sponsor' may fund the live television coverage. He's actually very positive about the future. So reading between the lines I'd reckon there's nothing to worry about.
Its hard to believe looking at the numbers last Monday and for the race series that the DCM nearly faded out of existance in the 90's. Low numbers (2000-3000) and struggling to find sponsorship, it could have been no more.
BTW did anyone else hear Colm McCarthy (Bord Snip) on Marian Finucane this morning giving out about the road closures because of the marathon. Seems he could'nt get into work last Monday. He reckons you all should have be confined to the park:D

What was he doing wanting to work on Monday?

Firstly I always wondered why Adidas did sponsor the marathon when they don't have their shoes in any specialist stores.
I can see a big brand like Asics taking over next year.

Asics are mentioned as new sponsors for 2011 in the marathon programme.
Whether they are the main sponsors remains to be seen
