i was going to blanchardstown and missed turn off at blanch and was forced thru the toll and then had to take next exit and come back onto m50 and go thru toll again a few mins later to get back to blanch. Any way of appealing the toll ?

Of course not, you went through the toll twice! Just pay before 8pm tomorrow!

  • Posts: 0 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Miracle Cold Designer

    Nope
just make sure to pay before 8pm or you'll be looking at double the cost

A very apt username for this particular issue.......

Nothing you can do, just pay the toll each way as soon as you can.

You didnt have to pass through the Toll on the way back. You could have gone cross country but you decided to use it anyway.

Its not a life changing amount of money. You will probably spend more on phone calls and time moaning about it than if you just pay it.

I think you should accidentally pay what you owe.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

[high horse] pay more attention when driving, it's fairly important :p[/high horse]

you're gonna have to pay, OP. you could have come back via knockmaroon (sp) hill and saved a couple of euro

crap .. this thread has reminded me that I have gone through the toll every work day for the last 10 years by accident ... i'd better get on the phone ..

    10years x 50weeks x 5days x 2 tolls .. that refund would be a nice christmas bonus

OP, I quite surprised given your ridiculous question that you didnt simply do a U turn on the motorway and head back to your correct exit. Just think of all the time and money saved.

would u believe i saw that bout on the m7 southbound last week
the car went about 2/300 metres past the junction of the m9
they were reversing up the hard shoulder to go down the m9, anyone familiar with the road would know that the traffic doesnt slow down at the exit
    madness!!

Whats with all the hate directed at the OP for asking a simple question?

One guy makes a smart comment, and everybody jumps on - classy...

I know some tourists who got stung by the M50 toll - they got lost and ended up crossing it 4 times in about 20 minutes.

The OPs question was fair enough, even though there is virtually no hope of getting out of paying.

How is it a reasonable question? He drove through the toll twice and wondered if he could get his cash back? He didnt claim that his car was stolen or anything like that, he actually drove through it. Why would he not have to pay?

to be fair - the OP could have taken an alternative route ....which means AVOIDING the M50 .... if he or she did this .... toll avoided for definate (longer journey time ... but less risk)

the OP's mistake has been a costly one - as he/she passed the toll point twice ...and has to pay ...twice !! ...its an error you probably wont make again OP !!

    Lesson Learned !!

Shower of smart alecks round here. It was a bloody mistake
I guess you should pay the first toll; you were actually using the motor way.
In general I do think it’s a bit unjust that say that somebody who travels from say Dundrum to Tallagh (for example) every day for free, where’s if you live in Lucan and work in the airport you have to pay every time you go.
The second toll is a load of cod’s wallop I reckon there should be a rule if you pass the tole in the opposite direction within 5 mins it should be free. That would be enough time the cross on the flyover and get back on track.
The only reason a person would have to do this is if they make a mistake and miss their exit. I don’t think people would be doing it for the crack or to take advantage of the situation (your not going be able to burn into IKEA and back in 5 mins to get a free toll!!!!)

But hey it’s not a fair world, pay the tolls, lick your wounds and move on !!!

But isn't the toll for the West-link bridge, not the M50?

Oh I wouldn't worry about that - there are plans afoot to toll you for the length of your trip on the M50

The OP ignored the 3k long exit lane, the 4 overhead gantry signs and numerous smaller ones to the side of the road. Also they haven't moved the exit for Blanchardstown.

The M50 toll has been there for decades its well known and is indeed well signposted to signify the fact that this is your last exit before the toll i.e. Palmerstown and Blanchardstown exits.

If I were the OP I would take it on the chin and maybe learn a lesson like "PAY MORE ATTENTION WHILST DRIVING". It's not like the signs are small and hard to read and there not hidden behind trees.
