Just wondering if anyone chose not to have live music at their wedding. I've been to a lot of weddings where I wasn't crazy about the music. It's not a money saving thing it's just that I would like to walk down the aisle to pachelbels cannon and i can think of loads of songs and instrumentals that would fit into the ceremony. Would people think it sounded bad or was scabby not to have live music?

I was considering not having live music either, but don't know how it would go down. It's mainly because there's certain pieces of music I want that a live band/singer wouldn't be able to recreate properly.

It's not actually for me my friend is getting married next year but it just got me thinking what I'd like whenever my day comes around!! Music is actually really important to me but as you say I don't know if a live singer could do my favourite songs justice. I'd hate people to think it was scabby though, I suppose if you choose your songs carefully. You could have it in the church booklet the reasons behind each piece or something, just a thought

Try not to worry about what people think. It's your day, do it as you see fit.
The wedding music doesnt really inconvenience anyone anyway (in that some things you may see fit to do may be awkward for people - like a wedding abroad)

I attended one wedding where the music wasn't live and it sounded terrible tbh. Now the church in question is a large, echoy one and while the sound travelled it sounded like a bad recording.
Maybe see if you can play the music in the church and see how it sounds?

It's perfectly possible to have Pachelbel's Canon played live. Just because you live music at hte venue doesn't mean you have to have a singer. It's your day, a string quartet/trio/piano and strings are all easily arranged.

I was at a wedding a while back and they had a CDplayer on the altar, and to be honest, it just didn't look right, or sound right; but then their music choice wasn't wonderful either.

A lot of priests seem to prefer live music even tho some of them restrict the type of music that you can have.

A trio or quartet of musicians work very well in a church setting, as a previous poster mentioned, and they can play pretty much what you wish. Pachelbel's Cannon is very straightforward and a wedding regular, so I'm sure that would be no problem to anybody that you would approach.

Your priest would probably be able to point you in the direction of some suitable musicians for the church:)

    Best of luck with it!
