The last day of operation of route 10 was commemorated by enthusiasts with preserved CIE buses running alongside the normal fleet on the route.

The very last departure to Phoenix Park, the 2300 from Belfield was accompanied by CIE-bodied Leyland Atlantean D464, typical of the type of bus that operated on the route throughout the 1970s and much of the 80s.

Picture attached shows the final departure from Belfield.

Somebody enlighten me please. Whats happening to the 10?

That photo was great. Brought back memories. I remember a 10 on fire outside the park circa 82.

The 10 ceases to exist from today.

Route 46A is extended northwards to Phoenix Park to cover that end of the route, while the 39A will run via Baggott Street and Waterloo Road to Belfield all day to cover the southern end.

Not very clever. The last 46A extension north didn't last. Maybe this new fantastic route should be called the 9?

Don't see the new 39A being too reliable either. Another excessively-long route.

saw one of those old busses yesterday in the city centre and thought maybe they should bring them back on the 145 route, it might improve times:)

Was a daily user of this route for a couple of years...served me well...and sad to see it go....

Well it`ll be a very interesting scenario tomorrow along the North Circular Road....

I don't know why you say "preserved" CIE buses. Having worked on the "Park" during the 1970's, possibly on that very bus, I can never remember them being in such good condition. The current model, with one headlight out, is more typical. Nice picture though.

while I appreciate that people want to commemorate such a long served route I think its moronic to get rid of the 10 in favour of a higher number.

Hopefully once ND is finished a proper revision of every bus number will actually* take place, bringing back all these lower numbers (even if in totally different areas)

    * there's supposed to be but who knows what the extent will actually be

Why bother with the hassle and confusion just to have 1 or 2 digits less on the front of it. Totally pointless

but what's the point in having the 46a, a variant of the 46 when the 46 no longer exists (etc etc). It make sense to rationalise the numbers, removing 3 digit ones and the letter variants where possible.

Another poster pointed out in a different thread that Belfast did it very successfully recently

I think it was mentioned on the Network Direct thread that renumbering was part of the process but would happen at a later date.

Seem daft to me having some big commemoration of the "last 10" - there will still be buses going to the Park along the same route, just the number has changed and its entirely possible that the number 10 will reappear in the future. Its not like the last tram to Dalkey, and they're not ripping up the Nrth Circular Rd afterwards...

People get buses they're familiar with. Going to a Rovers match at Belfield, people should get the 11B or at a push, the 11.

But they get got the 10 to Belfield, because that's what's familiar. It involves a 15 minute walk from one end of UCD to the other from the bus stop to the ground, but that's what happens.

the 10 is also a lot more frequent, reliable and faster than an 11/b

    was:(

But then you factor in the walk at the end and the advantage is lost and that Belfield is one of the easiest places this side of China to get lost in..

It's simple - going to UCD? Number 10 bus. Phibsborough? 10. Zoo? 10.

Then just rename the 46a the 10! Simples! I also see students are starting to use the 39a more

Is the resolution to this, renaming the 46a to the 10? :P

no, the 39a should have been withdrawn in favour of 10, keeping lower, clearer, simpler numbers in service.

hopefully the proposed renumbering will address this
