    Hey people,

Basically the problem im having is Vista, i hate everything about it (networking is a bitch) and want it off my laptop asap and i want to re-install xp.

I have the xp disc and ive set my laptop from the bias to boot the cd drive first so the xp installation disc runs first, the setup proceeds with its various scans before actually running xp setup ad then crashes with a blue screen error telling me xp cant be installed because my c: drive might have virus', or may be damaged.

Ive ran an antivirus program to rid the system of any unwanted virus'

Ive ran chkdsk /f to scan and repair the drive from command prompt in safe mode

Ive tried everything and i still cant get it.

Can anyone shed some light or even put me onto someone who will wipe my hard drive and install xp on my system?

Head is done in here trying to resolve it all day, main reason is to play wow and vista just doesnt seem to like the launcher lol.

    Any help greatly appreciated guys

    Hi OP,
Check out this photo step by step guide .
    Your probably missing a step.

Windows xp will never warn you about virus.

If your still having issues try a different windows xp disc.

the only thing I would do differently to the guide is at step 5, I would delete all the partitions and make one big partition this is get rid of vista and it recovery partition.

Would it be possible to take a photo of the screen that warns you about a virus and attach it to a post here? The XP setup shouldn't be warning you about a virus.

Anyway, there may be bad sectors on the disk if you are getting a BSOD.

If you have all your files backed up already and can clean wipe everything from the disk then use this application to format the disk back to its factory default.

    http://www.dban.org/download

You need to burn it to a CD then boot it. Choose the quickest formatting option (I think it's just writing random 1's and 0's to the disk) and let it run. Depending on the size of your disk it can take anywhere between 6hrs to over a day for large disks (1TB+)

After it completes, then attempt to install XP again.

^^^^Thanks man ill try that next,

    but heres the latest.

Thought that it might just be the xp disc i have so i decided to download xp in a torrent and rip it to a cd.

So back to step one, reboot the system and made sure the cd drive booted first with the new xp disc in the drive,

Manage to get the blue dos xp setup screen and it looks to be copying various files that it needs, then it finishes and says 'initializing setup', crashes and i get this on a dos screen
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer.Remove any newly installed hard drive or hard drive controllers.
Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configurated and terminated.
Run chkdsk /f to heck for hard drive corruption and restart your computer.

    Technical Info:

    0x0000007B (0xF78D2524,0xc0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000

So now i know its not the first disc i have so it has to be a system problem

I cant get a screen shot because the setup is in dos.

Ive tried everything on this one lads,

Ran chkdsk /f as asked ad still receive the same error when trying to boot the xp cd.

Cheers again for the input :)

    Hi OP,
I may know what the issue is.

In the bios there is two controller settings acpi or ide.
I had this issue before when installing windows xp onto a pc which had vista

    Go into your bios F2
Change the controller setting from acpi to ide mode.

    This may fix it,

Lol oh ohh, bit too late :(

I ran the nuke program l31mrod posted to wipe the hard drive so its running now with a 3 hour countdown on finishing.

Gonna try re-install xp from the disc after that and hopefully it works, not too sure if its too late to change the bios controller thingy you suggest fella, do you think i should still do this after the disc has been wiped?

I would recommend having the controller in ide mode for windows xp.

But try to install the laptop with the normal settings if you still get the blue screen error change the controller settings.

If changing the controller settings works then, then great lesson learned for future pc install:cool:

don't forget that you need a license for XP

Vista home doesn't have a downgrade license
OEM versions of XP don't have a transferable license

    good decision op..! :):):

and what, vista will enter hibernation upon disocvering a virus and automatically cleanse every local drive in an instant, ...?

or maybe ask for authorisiation for removal and when you click 'yes' it says you are not authorised enough to complete this task, sorry..

    Good morning :)

Ok so result on getting xp onto my system, after the nuke program ran i went into the bios and changed the os from vista/7 to xp, re-booted and the install went ahead without any problems.

Delighted with that, that was until the install was finished and i tried to install my drivers :(

Inserted the drivers disc that came with my laptop upon purchase, ran the setup and then....BAM!

I cannot install the drivers because they only work with vista

No i have no wireless, on that laptop to even try and go loking for the drivers that i need, like how do i even find out what exact drivers my lan and other things need?

I was so happy watching it install after the nightmare yesterday, now im just getting p'd off lol

    Any ideas?

*edit* im just after cheking realtek for my ethernet card drivers and no matter where i look they only seem to be for vista?? is it possible to get the drivers i need for xp too??

    Cheers mate,

    Make: Logiq
    Model: M76T
    Product code: M76OTG

    Intel celron 900@2.20ghz

Well you learn something new everyday dont you lol :)

Ok so heres the next dilemma, went to the link provided and read through the thread, clicked the link for the clevo website in one of the posts and thought all my birthdays and xmas' came together with all the drivers there.

Sadly, not all of them work or are outdated.

The vga one is waaaay outdated.

The lan and modem ones only work on vista os even though it states both.

The reltek sound device one worked though

If i could just get the lan and modem ones to access the internet id be laughing, becomin a pain using the usb stick to transfer and try.

Cheers for this sligo guy, been a great help so far fella.

Im just baffled now as to what to do if even clevo dont have the right drivers?
