Looking for some advice from the professionals on this forum. Can you please recommend to me an excellent photo editing monitor from 0 to 350 euro in price?

    LCD/LED.
    24 inch.
    Perfect for professional photo editing.

I have had a look around but there are many factors involved and plenty of choices at hand. Brand does not matter as this is an important birthday present for someone who is a professional photographer.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading!

For starters.. NOT one of the pieces of crap that has the ultra-glare finish. (they don't call it that though.)
The ultra-shiny finish on it tricks you into thinking there's more contrast than there actually is, and causes eye strain, and make sit nearly impossible to work with any lights behind you.

Try to pick up a second hand Dell 2407/2408WFP monitor. I'd 4 of them over the years and found them to be excellent.

I have the Apple 24 inch LED, great display, maybe out of your price range though.

    have a look at TFTcentral

they have a very clever system for looking at monitors

if you want a pro monitor

    look at

    lacie
    nec
    ezio

they are the real monitors to use at the high end

BUT some do cost a fortune though

    your looking at 1K plus

I second the Dell 2407 opinion, but they're at least €500.... damn, it's very odd to me to expect a good monitor for under €350 The really excellent Apples cost €1k+

    Hi Liber8or,

There is an ad for 23" and 30" apple cinema displays for sale on gumtree, don't know anything about them condition-wise etc or even if they're still available but if you want a high quality display in your price range this might be an option. Blow your budget and get the 30"... best birthday present ever :)

To be honest I would recommend buying a new panel before a 2nd hand one as panels do fail - even apple branded ones (the panels are actually manufactured by samsung/LG.Philips) so a long warranty is important.

    No Budget: Lacie 324 / Apple 24" led* / Dell U2410
*prefer the older 23" matte screen but it's getting old.

On your budget - look at the samsung SM2443DW (under €300 new), recently got one of these on a printer rip at work and it's actually a very good quality display for the money! Wouldn't have an issue with it as a main display.

I bought 4 of the 2408's when they came out (had a couple of 2407's before that). Sold them for about €350 ea on Adverts after a few months and bought a couple of Dell 30" monitors instead...that seems to be the going rate for used 2407/2408WFP monitors.

Posted this in the computers and technology section with no responses yet. Would love to order it this evening if there are no major issues with it.

I'm thinking of getting this monitor for my new Mac Pro.

What are the opinions? The budget doesn't really allow for more than this. I mainly do photography, but not majorly intense colour work.

Mainly looking for thoughts on it, but one question. It says it has a max resolution of 1920x1080. It says in a few places that this is the max. How would this affect me?

Dell are are usually good. Iv'e been using one for the last few years and the colour has been spot on whenever I printed anything.

it's a good display for the price. Personally I don't like TV resolutions on a computer display.

If you could stretch this one is a massive step up

but is in price also. 1920x1200, IPS panel.

what do you mean tv resolutions on computer displays?

and buying a mac pro, that monitor is waaay out of my budget!!

1920x1080 is HDTV resolution, 1920x1200 is WUXGA a computer resolution. Generally only cheaper displays have the TV panels.

IPS > TN panels when it comes to monitors
