Why that bit?

We've had the "whats your load out" threads before but what I'm wondering is why people have picked the gun/BDU/webbing/scope/accessory etc that they have. Is there a good story about why? Is there a rationale or is it just the Gucci* factor that you added a MagPUL "Rail mounted long range Nuclear submarine detector in digital tartan"?

Edit: This is just a bit of fun, lets try to have a civil one :)

Flecktarn, because at the time i thought it looked quite unique. Oh how wrong i was  Once i got my first flecktarn parka i had to have everything in flecktarn.

First AEG was a AKS-74. Simply because i hated that everybody had an M4 of some varient.

    i pick what is practical

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,854 ✭✭✭Rogue-Trooper

I chose a CIRAS vest as it was very practical but more importantly it hid my beer belly......

Similar to what Swiftblade has said, Multicam was once original & unique and there wasn't a lot of it about. However, it has now become 'clitoriscam' as every c#nt has it!!

... shame I couldnt thank that twice.

I picked up an XTN446 PMR from another boardsie because I needed a radio, but instead of paying for a crappy one that would need replacing I got one that would last. I also got a little speaker/mic thing that clips to your webbing ... soooo useful, especially when Marshalling leaving my hands free almost all the time.

Vest. Before I bought a vest I had a look at lots of loadouts in the field. I eventually bought a CIRAS from ebaybanned on a friend's recommendation. It was a lovely bit of kit but was too damn big/heavy for me. I moved on to a Warrior Plate Carrier which again was nice kit but I still found it too bulky so changed again to a Warrior Centurion chest rig. This rig ticks all the boxes for me - not too bulky, rear section can be removed if hydration/extra capacity isn't needed giving me a high-speed/low-drag setup, it holds 8 mags without the need to add pouches, but most important of all it is superb quality and looks the shizzle while still meeting all my practical requirements!

Comms. I have used a mate's XTR446 but felt I wanted something of slightly higher quality so eventually bought a pair of XTN446, Motorola's 'prosumer' PMR446 model prior to the XTNiD. Why a pair? You never know when one will let you down! Why the XTN over the XTR? Proven reliability, additional weather-proofing.

Camo. It is fair to say that Multicam has become a bit generic given how many players wear it, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it is still one of the best-looking patterns out there. The availability of so many Tan/Coyote Brown/Multicam accessories also makes it a very practical choice. My team loadout is Multicam but even if it wasn't I would have bought a set. My budget didn't stretch to genuine Crye Multicam but at the same time I wasn't going to buy cheap crap that wouldn't last so bought Helikon Camogrom as a good compromise.

Two themes are common to all my airsoft gear from BBs/batteries all the way up to camo/AEG:
    1. I will only buy kit that is practical, if it is gucci as well that's great but I won't substitute aesthetics for practicality.
    2. I will spend extra to buy the best kit available (or as close to the best as I can afford), there's absolutely no point in buying cheap kit that won't perform as you want/last a reasonable amount of time.

Kit wise I'm not really a matching bdu and vest type person, I was at the start but I've adopted a "contractor" style and I'd wear stuff I feel comfortable in rather than what would camoflage me best because afterall camo doesnt help moving across a flat field between cover, I wore a hoodie with an vest thrown over it last time out, I got a nostalgic "noob" feeling:pac:

Gun wise it has to feel right the second I pick it up or it'll never work. Had an M14 but didnt like the balance, bought an M4..perfect, now I've 3 of them and I'd buy another if I needed one:p

Accessories have to be comfortable like the gun their on, never liked standard M4 grips, bought a MOE grip now I've Miads/Moes on all my M4s. Same with stocks..MagPul all the way:P

Some people buy Magpul gear for the "l33t" look but it actually functions for me so I buy it:) I've too many accessories on my rifles, I always swear I'll buy another M4 and just leave it standard but that won't happen:P

MagPUL "Rail mounted long range Nuclear submarine detector in digital tartan"?

    Where can I buy one?

I think most of my stuff falls into the practical/was available category. I have niggles but who doesn't. My G36 is probably the piece I've the most attachment to and as anyone who's heard any part of the saga will tell you it's been a long long time getting to where it is. I quite like the G36, it's not too common, and set up like mine is rare enough for people to ask about it. Ares makes a fantastic exterior (I haven't had a chance to check out the Umarex version but my pre-Umarex one looks and feels the business and even ahs proper body pins) but the quality control is seriously wanting and I've been through a couple of pistons, nozzles and hop rubbers. Would I change it for something else? A CO2 battle rifle of some description maybe but it would have to be a nice piece ...

    Gentlemans noize!!!!

I think I just bought my stuff cause Masada had it, or Shiva told me it would make me a better person.

i recon more people will start mix and matching to try and get a more unique look. i was actually thinking about the unisols from universal soldiers two the return.

I had one of those medium-range nuclear submarine detectors, but in a world of submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missiles with multiple independently-targeted reentry vehicles, it just wasn't cutting the mustard anymore. This game's turning into a goddamned arms race.

    cloths/load out:
i got digi dpm because i personally think it works greast in irish woodlands. although i did rush into buying it im still happy i did in the end.
next time im going to try some sort of a u.s ranger load out

aeg: i have a m4 variant, reason being i dont like m16's i dont like the lenght and it looks a tad bit dated, and i absolutly hate ak's so i went for the m4 style as i could mod it to my own tastes. in saying that the scar is still my favorite and i will own a scar ssr when i can afford it and add it to my ranger load out( well my version of it)

accessories: i bought these for practicality the scope is 50/50 on looks vs functionality. but everything else i bought because it works like the slings and forgrip. i dont go for big brand names usually unless i like the part itself.

    Element-Ak-butt-Pad-BK-002.jpg

If you have an AK get one of these, they fit any stock, including under and side folders and they add loads of comfort and grip to the butt pad, especially for the slim metal stocks.

Its for a gp30 to reduce recoil in real use, but they are really really nice add-ons in general.

Fishing wire of various grades, and some small tent stakes. Use them as trips for claymores, groupings for mines and for entry alerts.

Pliers. Because I'm not the only dirty bastárd who likes setting traps.

Anyone ever try playing with a bolt-action, just for the sheer 'class' factor?

    NTM

Went with claw-gear becausecouldn't really find anything like crye precision kit in Rooivalk. The over-the-top nature of 1gen stalker gear had a certain charm to it (i mean come on, who couldn't look at groin molle attachments and smile? :p).
Went with rooivalk because its just so uncommon, as I understand it only the pakistani army wear it. Of course, at the time I thought it was South African camo. Well no told ME 'Rooivalk' was a South African attack Helicopter .

JG type89 was different, had a three round burst mechanism that I LOVE, and was cheap.

Well he hardly wants to get shot in the back. Obviously.

I use a CIRAS and whatever BDU I have rememberd to wash in the last month ( MC, MARPAT or ACU ). I changed from an m16a4 to a SCAR-L because I wanted something with a folding stock that could use the STANAG style mags I had.

I think it was a joke in fairness, could be bit of a nod to Black Hawk Down too where one of the guys is shot in the back after removing his armour plate because it was heavy:pac:

I use mostly German gear, story why too:D
1St time I played I rented from the site, it was a m4 stubby...Jammed it:rolleyes:(Still sorry for that)
2nd, used a mates gun, Really good M4....Broke that( He fixed it but I'm still sorry:rolleyes:)
3rd time, had a shotgun...almost broke it:D, mossberg i think. wore friends Flecktarn though, felt dodgey bout it but it was great:eek::P
Finnaly got my own gear, special deal in shop, got own flecktarn and G36, felt a bit odd bout it as never used it before...Never looked back since I've used it:D
Deal also came with a pistol,m9, that never seemed just right for me, traded it for a USP that's used by Germans, much better:D
So, american equipment= broken for me
    German=not a bother :D
