An Post delivery problems

Just looking for advice. I ordered a camera from amazon last sat. It shipped on Tuesday and they provided me with a tracking no. (sent via An Post). On Wed morning (7am) it said online that it had arrived in Portlaoise Mail Centre and was 'On Route to Customer'. Last update via the telephone tracking is Wednesday at 22.55 saying 'package accepted'.

So no sign of package! I rang An Post customer services yesterday and they said they don't have a clue where it is! They said it should have been sent to Kilbarrack and then delivered to me on Thursday morning. I had it sent to my work address so there would be always someone to accept it.

So what I'm asking is, if my package doesn't arrive on Monday morning (and An Post said 'it's not looking good'), what's my options? Obviously I will contact Amazon but will they refund me or send me a replacement?

And what's with An Post not updating or tracking items that are meant to be tracked? And how do they just lose a large package (large camera worth 400 euro )

If it's gone missing, how are they going to update the tacking info? If they could update the tracking info, they'd know where it was.

You contact Amazon about the missing package, and they take it from there.

Don't worry anything I get that goes via Portlaoise Mail Centre gets at least two extra days added on to the delivery time. God knows what they do there but they always manage increase the delivery times.

cheers for the replies. just got worried when I rang An Post and they basically were telling me that the parcel was lost, without any explanation. Hopefully it will show up next week.

Does the tracking say it was delivered when you check online? If it does, you should be able to get the signature sheet, click the tracking result to see full details and they'll have a scan of the signature there.

If it was delivered to your work place, it could be there somewhere. If it was delivered to a wrong address, then it's gone, and you'll need to get Amazon to chase it and re-send.

    I've worked in An Post.

Amazon parcels would be very hard to lose. If the parcel is addressed poorly, they are easy to mis-sort however. Chances are it could have gone to another sorting centre incorrectly, adding a day or two. It'll turn up. Wouldn't worry about what someone said on the phone, customer service isn't their speciality.

its possible that a staff member took it ...or delivery was made to the wrong address and that person accepted it (and said nothing)

so be prepared to open a can of whoop ass on An Post .... I find them terrible - for the costs involved....a registered letter in England is 40p or 50p ... here the cheapest registered letter is €4.50 or €6.50 I cant remember.

Registered letter costs €5.25 to send. Prices for post here are pretty terrible, especially when you go for international and registered (and parcel as opposed to package).

It will be amazon's job to deal with An Post as they are their customer.

FWIW my amazon stuff always arrives on time via An Post, stuff I send in respect of ebay always arrives on time.

My major gripes are with GLS (just like the rest of the world) and Parcels2Go (who are useless for tracking).
