    Lads...
Am i snookered? This being Ireland, you just never know...the basic requirements on the website says nothing about the log book, but the download thingy says you need it...
Point being...i am in midlands, have NCT here in the morning, and managed to leave the bloody log book in my room in Dublin!!

Will i be wasting my time even going to the test centre? Or is this one of those things that are down to their discretion? maybe grasping at straws here, but i was trying to remember did i need the logbook the last time and i am sure i didn't?

Help and positive experiences are very welcome...

It's three bloody hours...to be honest i am expecting a fail anyway...33% of 10 year old cars fail first testing anyway...
Anyone had a similar experience recently?

For any of the 4 tests I've had done in 2 different test centres I've never been asked for anything more than the booking confirmation and payment.

The same as that Jim...just happened to be flicking through the registration letter as i was cleaning her out and noticed it. Perhaps it's a new requirement?

have you had a test recently??

I did my NCT in Sept and as per list I had driving licence & log book etc, they didn't look at any of them, just the appt letter and the money. Mind you I did have them in my hand ready (not opened up) so perhaps if I hadn't they might have asked, who knows. You'll probably be OK.

i have never been asked for my VLC in any of my cars while getting the NCT. the girl told me you only really need it if there is an irregulatory (sp) on the system contradicting something on the car ie. red saloon and you show up in a little black hatchback or if vin numbers dont match.

Did my NCT last June 12 months, you need the VRC but I was never asked for the log book - my car didnt HAVE a log book. Nor does my current car which just got its NCT before I bought it, presumably also without a log book.

Sure you don't mean the Vehicle Registration Cert?

Would certainly think they don't need your license or insurance certificate for any reason. Unless they changed rules dramatically since the last time I put a car through NCT...which wasn't too long ago. There is no logical reason in my mind why they would need them though.

Am sure though with the the vehicle license certificate its a case they would need it more if it transpired your car was logged incorrectly in their system or there was something strange going on with a chassis number. Am sure that more than 99 times out of 100 it wouldn't be needed. Would also imagine that if it was worst case scenario and you did need it, it would be a matter of bringing it in at any stage within the month following your test and when all is in order they would pass it...no retest fee or need to book a retest, just when one of the test mechanics have a few minutes to spare they would check its all in order and pass you there and then...unlikely it would come to this though I would be thinking but my word ain't gospel either!

Belt on in without it is what I reckon...you should be ok.
