company branding on personal car

There's a thread in Work Problems about a company who asked that an employee brand her car with the employers company advertising (and get 150 a month for it). The girl was on probation and felt she couldn't refuse.

I understand we're in tough economic times etc but if I was approached to brand my car with the logo, I'd be "Eh, no!". I don't know why but I'd be outraged (maybe because my car is more than an a to b device, the first thing I did was remove the dealer branding when I bought it) The money wouldn't even enter my head (and anyway I pay the rest of the costs) I'd look at it and it wouldn't be 'my' car any more, couldn't take it to occasions etc etc.

Also was thinking that it was just as well that thread wasn't posted in the motors forum as surely there's others who think like me, and if she went down that road she might be out of a job! :D

I saw that. That was bad PR work there.

To the OP. You can always get Magnetic branding. Easier but the boss may not pay the same amount.

Looks the the Taxis driving around advertised by Garages and shops. They are paid money and the car is still their private car as well.

These are tough time we live in.

For me it would depend on the amount of stickerage on the car.

€150 per month is €1,800 per annum, which would pay insurance, tax, fuel and servicing for a lot of people for a year!!!

Emm soory but Taxi's can never be used for personal use, they are PSV's and must only be used for carriage for reward.

As bad as it looks, it's pretty effective advertising....

I think the figures could be made to work if the right product / promotion was out there for someone to get a free car for a period of time. If it was a case of the car being used/parked frequently in a target area and maybe for a short ownership, the costs involved would be small in the grand scale of things and would certainly be a good forrm of advertising.

How much does a bus / taxi ad campaign cost?

So you are telling me taxi drivers have another car at home for when off duty? Ya, I believe ya.

The OP also appears to be getting a car allowance from the company. Which may be in exchange for them not giving the OP a company car. So may not be straight forward to just say NO.

Oh believe me I hear ya but yes they are not allowed to legally use the PSV for personal use.

As far as I know, that's BS.

Can you please link to the relevant legislation/guidelines from the regulator?

Pretty sure they can, once the sign's removed.
