Hi all, apoligies if this has been asked before, but how come motor bike plates are not legal on a car but legal on a motorbike? I could never figure that one out as the speed gun must be able to pick up the plate on a bike

Bikes don't need an NCT, they don't even need a minimum tire thread depth. The bastards:pac:

Motorbike plates have to be smaller for obvious reasons..as in nearly every country around the world.

The legal minimum thread depth for motorbike tyres is 1mm (as opposed to 1.6mm on cars and trucks).

Most bikers (Myself included) are anal about mechanical maintenance of their bikes, tires included. I rarely see a bike on 1mm of tread, most guys would be buying new tires when they get to 2.5/3mm. Course, when tires last 4k miles it's a bad thing.
