It's probably one guy in a van covering the whole of the country. His toolkit consists of a gallon of stale petrol, a bicycle puncture repair kit and duct tape. Lots of duct tape.

Did you look at their site? It's underwritten by these guys. Why would you be so dismissive? Work for AA? Run your own recovery business? General begrudger?

I say fair play to them, good to break the AA monopoly here.

What does that underwriting actually mean to the consumer stuck at the side of the road though? That's a genuine question by the way, I'm interested to know.

It's the same crowd who do multi trip travel insurance for dirt cheap. Multitrip.com I think....?

i checked there undwr writer company which looks very good, there more than AA out there,if AA was more reasonable price but it over priced for a service you hope you dont need too use, specially at 146 euros and everything else is extra,so ,if it was a toolbox and can of fuel, wouldnt care if service was good as not getting over charged
i came across them by accident, was just looking too know if anyone used them or experience of them

    From Policy Document (bolding mine):
The vehicle is covered for the assistance services in this policy for a maximum of four breakdowns during
the period of cover if the Insured has paid the premium....

    14. Your vehicle shall at all times be maintained in a good mechanical and roadworthy condition and be
regularly serviced and hold a current NCT certificate, if applicable.....
I also noticed the following stipulation (bolding mine) - does this mean you pay an extra premium over the quoted price for this?
Onward nationwide transportation for the Insured and passengers(and their car) home or to their intended
destination within the territorial limits. Subject to payment of additional premium at original point of sale and
is confi rmed by your current validation certificate.

I don't know how the above compares with AA cover.

the only difference i think is the amount of breakdowns in a year your allow, the dea for me ,is hopefully not too have any breakdowns but think 4 in a year is plenty ,there top package is 52 euros which includes europe cover when abroad where as AA basic is 146 euros  and europe cover is extra,at 146 euros for a service you hope you dont need too use is abit much i think at that price specialy when you see AA uk basic cover is only 80 EUROS
so go figure, same company etc,the probly use excuse that running costs are higher here etc,but there service like other breakdown services are based on the fact that not all members will use the service, was 126 eurso last year ,jumped 20 euros in 2010 with AA,,i have AA sinse 2007 and only used once
outside breakdown.ie and AA ,only other breakdown service is attached too ones insurance,my insurance is up next year ,so if staying with same company ,but normaly shop around too check id cheaper, will take out breakdown with them,I think AA IRELAND need too rethink there prices on there services
