    Hey,

This is going to sound really stupid...

I walked outside my office to see I have a flat. Grabbed the spare from the boot and got to work on the bolts. Got all 5 removed and the tyre wouldn't come off. A colleague offered a hand and got the wheel moving but it made a big thud when it came off.

I eventually got the spare back on (with a fair bit of hassle) but when I tried to drive a little it was making a funny noise. Not sure how to explain the noise but it basically didn't sound right.

Would anybody know what might be causing this or what it might be? I've double checked that all the bolts are in place and securely tight! I'm due to drive home on the motorway later on but am afraid now after hearing that noise :(

    Thanks!

P.S: Not sure if it makes a difference but the car is an '04 A4

I had a 04 A4 that got a puncture after about a year. It failed me to get the tyre off and called the rescue service. The guy had to jack the car up and get underneath it to kick the tyre off. He said it was a regular feature of A4 in that a bit of rust would bond so tight that it was nearly impossible get the wheel off.

If its a space saver spare that might be responsible for the noise. Hard to see how you could have done any really damage though but there may be some more qualified to answer that question.

Nah it's an original A4 alloy spare. I'm just nervous about taking the motorway home but don't really have much of a choice as my home is over 20 miles away from work... Suppose a taxi is better than whatever damage I might cost driving on a dodgy wheel.

Maybe the wheel fell on the disk shield(on back off rear disk) and bent it so it could be scraping?
    Is it a rear wheel?
What kind of a noise, knocking, scraping, squeeling?

Sorry I should have stated, it's the back left. It's making a scratching/scrapping sort of noise with a hint of squeeling in there. Sorry to give such a description of the noise that's what it sounds like...

Its probably what I said about the disk shield or it could just be a coincidence meaning you need rear brake pads. I wouldn't think its too series just make sure them wheel nuts are tight enough(you don't have to over tighten them like a truck wheel bolt;)).

I tightened each one as much as I could by hand until it stopped then used my foot for the last inch or so.

So you reckon I should be ok? (Won't hold you liable if I crash my car :pac:)

Was going to ring my insurance to question my breakdown policy but they had just closed! Stupid weekend!

Ah you'll be grand take it easy. Just ring your mechanic tomorrow and book it in. Get the noise sorted and get your flat tire sorted.

Thanks very much for the swift posting! Fingers crossed it's nothing important!

It's going to the garage on Tuesday for a full service :)

Might be an idea to spin the hub with the wheel off, to see if the noise is still there.Have a look to see if there is anything obvious rubbing.

I had a look around but couldn't see anything... granted daylight was falling and using the glow off my phone didn't help.

Tomorrow I'll get up before work and have a good look around!
