just confrim the code is the same, go to 192.168.1.254 on a pc and if it asks for a username its broadband1
go to wireless and look for pre shared key or security, type it in on the iphone again exactly as it is there

I'm having the same problem. I cannot connect to my Eircom router with my iPhone 4. When I open Safari I get, 'Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet'. I've put in the wep key, and there is a 'tick' beside the device SSID in Wi-Fi Networks - does this means it is connected in some way? However, the IP address is 169.254.233.79 ??
So its not obtaining an IP address?? (should be 192.168.1.x).

Very confused about this cause my n900 has no problem connecting, using the same wep key. Same with my old laptop - no problems whatsoever.

My iMac cannot connect either, but I got around that by just plugging in a cable :)

    Any help appreciated.

what router have ya got, is it the zyxel or netopia

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 slap

    I've got the netopia router.

On the iPhone, under settings, beside Wi-Fi is the SSID of the router. The setting for this network are:

    DHCP
    IP Add: as above
    SNM: 255.255.0.0

    HTTP Proxy: Off

The same settings for BootP and there are none under Static.

That Subnet Mask is different on all my other connected devices. They each have three octets of 255.

I have renewed the lease a few times and have Forgot the network and re-input the wep key.

    Hope this helps.

try resetting network settings, go to settings>general>reset
something isnt right if its givin ya an ip like that, reset it and then set it up again and turn off cellular data aswell and try it

I've done as you suggested, but still cannot connect. I've also changed the channel to 10 on the netopia, as per anther post here, but no luck. :(

    Any other suggestions?

all i can say is go through all the channels 1 by 1 and see if it works on any of them, unless ur getting an ip of 192.168.1.xx then ur not connected to the router
if it wont work after all that,do a restore on the iphone
    is it jailbroken

    Thanks, I'll try those channels.
    No, its not jailbroken.

Tried all the channels, and restored via iTunes. Still the same, I'm afraid. Retrieving 169.254.x.x IP address from the router.

I'll try and see if I can connect it to a friends network tomorrow :(

    Thanks for your help.

Before I changed to UPC I had an Eircom Netopia router and the same problem.

I was able to solve it by changing the router setting from WEP to WPA (or WPA-PSK) I can't remember which one. Although, I did still get intermittent loss of signal before I binned it.

    Hope this might help.

you check you setting and then connect if not connect then you may update your iphone using Softwear .

Hi. Didn't get to check on my friends network. I was thinking of trying at work, but I started a new project today and the wireless is completely locked down.

I changed the Privacy setting to WPA-PSK, but it asks me for a pre-shared key. I wasn't too sure what to do, so I changed it back before I could test the iPhone. Also there are WPA version 1 and 2.
Any chance you could run me through how to change the settings?
    The original setting was WEP-Manual.

Hmm... do you think it might be worth turning the privacy off? Just to see if the iPhone can connect, to rule out any problems with it?

Leave it as WPA PSK. ya have to make up a passcode your self then so just any numbers or letters will do
Save and restart the router and then try setting up on the iPhone again

Don't worry about makin a note of the code, just click wireless on the router and it will be there at pre shared key
