Im looking for a nice gaming TV mostly for PC but i want to set up a 360 and use it to watch TV via sky box.

I had my heart set on this but a few users are reporting ghosting and images staying on the screen briefly after being displayed thus making it annoying for gaming, how genuine these claims are is anyones guess.

    http://www.directtvs.co.uk/LG_32LE5900_32_Inch_Freeview_HD_LED_TV__32LE5900/version.asp

Over on the AV forums a lot of people are staying dont bother with 100hz as they default to 50hz for gaming ?
Other people are saying for gaming id be better of going LCD and also not to form an opinion of image quality based on contrast ratio because some use dynamic contrast while others use fixed contrast, ie the LG i was looking at is 5,000,000 : 1 but is dynamic where as others for example are 70,000 :1 but the fact they are contstant makes them a better choice?

    My understanding was
    LED before LCD
    200hz, 100hz before 50hz
    Higher contrast ratio the better

Quite a lot over on AV forums suggest either of Samsung LE32C580, Samsung LE32C530 or Samsung UE32C5800 for gaming because they have less input lag than most others.

    Thoughts appreciated

    Hi Dcully,
You are on the right track, ignore contrast ratios they are a minefield with different brands using different methods of measurements, also games run at 60hz so 100hz is unneccesary. Input lag is something to research and for gaming go for a set that has the lowest input lag.

    Good luck with your purchase.
    Moo

Thanks Moolers,i done a lot of research over the weekend and decided to go with the Philips 32 Full Hd Pfl5405H/05.

Was gonna buy online but to my surprise powercity had them for 450 euro so i picked one up yesterday, delighted with it.
Superb quality, zero input lag, colours are insanely vibrant so much so that i have to turn em down.
Still getting to grips with all the options and what does what.

Well first off, do not ever think LED before LCD because LED is just a scam. And Plasma is better for gaming because they're great with motion and theres no input lag if you're worried about that sort of thing. As for the Hz thing, I wouldn't worry about that either.

He has already purchased a TV so it's a moot point but at 32" his only option was an LCD screen. And all flat panel displays have some degree of input lag.

Great to know - I'm in the market for a TV about the same size for gaming and had been looking at this model too.

After a couple of weeks with it, are you still happy with it?
How is the Display, input lag, sound, etc?
What types of games do you play on it?
    - How is it for TV - do you use Analogue, Digital Terrestrial, or Sky / UPC digital?

Sorry for twenty questions, just at that price the TV is very tempting... :)

Well im still loving this screen, its just gorgeous for gaming.
Image quality excellent, absolutely no input lag,i dont use the sound much as i using my pc speakers but its seems impressive the small bit of tv ive watched on it.
Picture quality is really excellent too on a bog standard sky box non HD.
As for games im playing on it,PC mostly all the latest multiplayer fps games, some WOW,starcraft2,mass effect2,fallout3,AVP absolutely no input lag ,it just took 3-4 days to adjust to a larger screen but once i did ill never go back.
Colours are breathtaking,i normally boost colour vibrancy in my graphics card contol panel as i love vibrant colours but with this tv i didnt need to.
Trust me if you after this tv as a gaming tv you wont be disappointed.

I too have been looking at that Philips TV and was just wondering have you played an xbox 360 on it and how does it play.

I'm just not sure about the 50hz

The xbox will display at 60hz, 50hz only really applys to 50hz material i.e broadcast material and DVDs.

Just an update on this TV (Philips 32PFL5405H/05) as I picked one up recently in a Power City special offer, and have been using it for TV and gaming (XBox 360).

I have one of the older XBox 360s, without HDMI, so I have been connecting it via Component and the TV does a really good job of colours and motion. The image is very sharp, and a world of difference from my old CRT... The screen refresh is really quick and I didn't notice any lag, jaggies or fragments on screen for most of the games I have played (FIFA 11, Halo 3, Mass Effect 2, Splosion Man, and a few others).

Setting the country to UK, you can pick up the Saorview TV channels (including EPG, MHEG 5 Aertel and Now / Next functionality), the Saorview Radio Channels are missing for now but no great loss for me. We can receive the Analogue UK channels (BBC1, 2, ITV, C4) and the picture for Analogue is fairly poor but watchable. RTÉ 2 in upscaled HD is quite nice to watch, and am really looking forward to when they start broadcasting actual 1080p HD content later in the year. Changing the channels seems to take a little longer than would be expected, but not so long that you would give out about it.

The 100Hz and Motion can take a little bit of getting used to at first as people seem to move too smootly. It's just a small adjustment to get used to it, but at first it can be a little off putting.

Watching DVD's is really good too - using a DVD with upscaling. The image is sharp and a clear improvement. At the moment I don't see the need to go out and buy a BD player, because of the price of BD vs DVD and also the availability of some streaming HD content available (or coming soon) makes me want to hold off on splashing out on a next-gen Betamax player (better picture, but still going to be replaced or outdated, even if it did win the HDDVD war).

On a side note, one of the things I have noticed is that sometimes my Sony DVD player will sometimes black out and I need to change the channel and come back to the DVD and it will work again fine. This has only started happening since I hooked up the DVD player with a HDMI cable. Could it maybe be a bogey cable issue?
