I intend to replace an open fire with a solid fuel stove (no boiler.) I am undecided between a free standing one and an insert. Anyone with advice please.

had an insert stove fitted recently - great result. we went for the insert stove ince we have a really nice fireplace that we paid a lot for a few years ago and didn't want that ripper out. Also - living room is not that big and didn't want a stove protruding out from the fireplace.

Insert stove fits flush to the marble and very neat - great heat and performance from it too....

Could you please post the Brand and Model name to go with the recommendation?

hi - it was the Boru 400i that we finally decided on. As I said above great stove and great heat - can't fault it. Also made and assemble in IReland. [I have no connections to this company].

Was also very impressed with their fitter - more expensive than other companies but well worth it. some companies say that all you need to do is slide in the insert and screw it in to fire back. A lot of heat still escapes up the chimney that way. Needs to be correctly fitted with correct flue and cemented into place to minimise heat loss.
