I don't learn well from female lecturers/teachers

Hi, I'm wonderin does anyone else have this problem. I have never learned well from female teachers (I'm male) ever since I have been a child. Now I'm university doing a very demanding course and the situation seems to be the same. Obviously, I'm not being sexist or whatever but it just seems to be a fact for me. Anyone else observed this in themselves? I'm not sure if its anything specific- although I do tend to find females more patronising and less analytical (not always though, my maths teacher was great).#

Its a problem for me because the majority of teachers are female.

Is it that you can't learn from female teachers, or you find them annoying? There's a difference, but I really don't see how you could have this problem. Can you really not learn well from any female lecturer? That's a very sweeping claim to make.

And beware, a large proportion of the people who post in this forum are female!

Doesn't sound unreasonable. I was the same in school/college. Saying that I had a brilliant female teacher for English, but the rest just came off as condescending which didn't wash well with me, so they never got my attention. Some also just seemed bored to be teaching a class of guys while others came off as closet feminists.

Maybe its the connection between teacher and student. Male teachers always connected on a level with the students that females couldn't, while female teachers connected more with the girls classes.

I'm not saying I can't learn from femalle, I'm just saying that when a female is taking the class my learning experience is deficient. Annoying? Not really the word I'm looking for- I suspect there is some unconcious process going on but I'm not sure what- and definately don't think that I'm alone. I'm concerned because this may lead to perhaps my sons going through same problem given that large proportion of female teachers, and in particular at primary level. I'm not sure if the trend is towards increasing/decreasing male proportion- maybe someone could enlighten me?

Also, this could explain the difference in LC results between male/female students.

This exactly sums up my experience- incidentally, I also had an excellent English teacher, maybe we were at the same school.

I think it's probably increasing, especially due to postgrad degrees, but the overwhelming majority is still female.

To be honest I don't think it has anything to do with the teachers, but it could have some effect. In my experience boys did just as little work for male teachers as they did for female ones.
