    Hi everyone...

I am moving to Germany next week until Christmas and was wondering can anyone recommend which mobile broadband to get?

I obviously need it to work in Germany and not sure what company to go with or even where to begin to be honest!

Any advice at all would be terrific.

    All the best,

    Acapella

Vodafone does the same sort of packages as they do here - you can get a pay-as-you-go stick and sim for about 20euro. There are a few different options, daily rates, pay-per-use and weekly deals.

Pay-as-you-go is definitely the easiest option even if it works out more expensive in the long run. To get a contract you'll need to have all of your paperwork sorted out, Anmeldungsbestaetigung, work contract, German bank account etc. Even if you plan on getting a contract, go pay-as-you-go first, at least you'll have it while you sort everything else out.

As far as I know, Three Broadband works in countries outside of Ireland without extra charges. Check that out to confirm though, I'm not 100%.

When I lived there last year the Vodafone rates were quite expensive actually for prepay at least. Some friends were paying 3 euro a day or something like that.

The cheapest prepay I found was with O2 for a very reasonable 20 euro a month and maybe 50 euro for the dongle although I ended up just using the sim in my iPhone and tethering to my laptop. Be aware that they wont sell you a sim, even prepay, without a drivers licence or passport, etc.

Data is cheap in Germany so dont bother with 3, best thing to do is a search of various providers as there are lots of various deals. I use a Tmobile sim on my iphone when I am over on pay as you go but when I was last over O2 was the cheapest.

I'm from Germany. There's loads of providers there. I used to have E-Plus prepay. It was always the cheapest. Don't know how it is now. My parents and my sister have D1. I would recommend getting an overview online.

I hope you can read and understand german:
