    Sandwell District
    Sandwell District finally touch down at Test on Saturday, November 20th. Originally scheduled to perform at the club earlier in the year, they had to cancel due to the ash cloud.

    With their debut album due soon and with killer remixes for Planetary Assault Systems, Traversable Wormhole and Reality or Nothing just released, Sandwell District are contemporary techno's greatest double act.

    They have achieved this by keeping a low profile and putting out a series of EPs that fuse all the best bits from Sahko, Basic Channel and Downwards, topped off with their pristine production touch.

    Karl O'Connor (Regis) and Dave Sumner (Function) have both played on their own to sell-out crowds at Test, so expect the duo's dense rhythms and hypnotic bleep techno to cause mayhem in Twisted Pepper's blacked out basement - and get there early!
    Tracklist:
    01. HG – 02A
    02. Sweet Exorcist – Testfour
    03. FB – 04A
    04. Ben Klock – Check For Pulse
    05. O – Sahkorausku
    06. Function – Variance (Marcel Dettmann Edit)
    07. Silent Servant – Discipline
    08. Choice – Acid Eiffel
    09. Moritz Von Oswald – Watamu Beach Rework
    10. Peter Van Hoesen – Face Of Smoke
    11. The Vision – A-472.0
    12. DVS1 – Running
    13. DBX – Losing Control
    14. G-Man – K.6

    16. Function – Disaffected (Ben Klock Remix)

    24. T++ – Audio 1995 #8
    25. Shed – Estrange
    26. John Carpenter – Police State / Romero & The President – Milan
    Jay Galligan
    Jay Galligan started to DJ in the summer of 2001 and since then has managed to dive deep into the depths of electronic music and surround himself with many great influences of the Irish dance
    music scene in order to mould his broad scape of musical interests that can be heard in his DJ sets.

    Coming from a background of free parties / raves, Jay eventually applied his trade to Dublin's techno and electro club nights. Over the years he has been a heavily involved resident DJ at the now de-funked Electric City, one of Dublin's premium techno club nights and has played in nearly every venue in Dublin city. In more recent times he holds a residency at Test in the Twisted Pepper.

    Jay has performed with many international acts such as ;
    Neil Landstrumm, Redshape, Sleeparchive, Chris Liebing, Legowelt, 2000 and One, Donnacha Costello, The Advent, Chymera, Decal, Magnetize, Robert Hood, Ben Klock, Paul Kalkbrenner, Vince Watson, Audion, Surgeon, Dopplereffekt...

    Playing favourites: Silent Servant

    RA talks to the Sandwell District member and post-punk fanatic in advance of the collective's debut compilation.

    Full article here

    Art, music, it's all the same for John Mendez, AKA Silent Servant. As part of the Sandwell District collective, Mendez's striking graphic design on the label's records and their situationist-inspired blog has helped provide context for the music. (Conversely, the music has often done the same for the art.) Growing up in California, Mendez was divorced from a monochromatic clubbing culture, cottoning instead to the sounds of post-punk at the same time as he fell in love with techno. This unique way of looking at the world is one part of what has made Mendez's contribution to Sandwell District so special, and it's why we asked RA's Finn Johannsen to quiz Mendez recently about some of his favourites.

    As the inimitable Sandwell District prepares to finally land at Test this Saturday night at the Twisted Pepper in Dublin, here's a special treat to get you all in the mood - a two-hour DJ/Live set from Function aka Dave Sumner recorded live at techno valhalla Berghain on October 24th, 2009.
    http://rapidshare.com/files/431509835/FunctionBerghain241009.mp3

    Without further ado, it's over to Dave to explain his approach to the set:

    "This is a 2 hour DJ/Live a set of mine that was recorded at Berghain last year on October 24, 2009 using a Laptop, Controller, Mixing Desk, Roland TR-808, Roland SH-101, Boss SE-50, Doepfer MAQ 16/3, Roland Juno-1 and Yamaha DX-100. It was around the same time I did the Sandwell District podcast for RA so it has a lot of remnants of it but with more of a rough, dirty live feel to it. It was sitting on a hard drive and I never even listened to it until a couple of weeks ago but was pleasantly surprised when I heard it. There's a few sound issues and the mixdown gets a bit heavy on the left side in sections but other than that, it's cool for a live recording. I don't usually like releasing live recordings especially ones that are a year old but hell, it's a 2 hour DJ/Live set at Berghain with a bunch of gear...So enjoy :).."
