Judge awards former McDonalds manager $17,500 for gaining weight

Just as the title says, a Brazilian Judge awarded $17,500 to an ex-manager that gained 4 stone in 12 years.

SAO PAULO — A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald's must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds while working there for a dozen years.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure quality standards remained high, because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.

The man also said the company offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. His identity was not released.

The ruling was signed Tuesday by Judge Joao Ghisleni Filho in Porto Alegre.
Filho said McDonald's could appeal the case, and the Brazilian headquarters of the chain said in an e-mailed statement Thursday it was weighing its legal options.

McDonald's also noted that it offers healthier food choices.

"The chain offers a large variety of options and balanced menus to cater (to) the daily dietary needs of its employees," the company said in the statement.

Lazy bastard (and this is coming from a man who gave himself diabetes through a sedentary lifestyle).

The food is what it is.
As long as it's prepared and cooked properly then there should not be a problem.
Had this manager spent more time inspecting the preparation of the food than worrying about whether or not big brother was watching, he wouldn't have been in this position.
There's also the fact that he was under no obligation to sample the food.

The deciding judge should be ashamed of himself for setting such a prescedent.
McDonald's food makes you fat. This is a known fact.
Idiots should not be rewarded for idiocy by idiotic judges.

Nobody forced him to eat the food and just because the option of free meals is there doesnt mean you have to take them. There was nothign stopping him heading off elsewhere for his lunch or bringing a packed lunch.

It maybe off-topic, what was she crying over? Was it that she had seen you put this thread up?
