From memory you get either two or three points for using the car without NCT where the car subsequently passes an NCT, I can't remember exactly which. There is 5 points for simple use of NCT where the car doesn't subsequently pass as far as I recall.

It could be 8 to 12 months before you get a summons, if you get one. Be sure and keep proof that you have indeed passed the car through the NCT.

It doesn't matter that the car was not in use etc., ultimately you did use it without an NCT.

You shouldn't have lied. If the Garda finds out he'll have little sympathy for you. When you get your nct bring it down to him, assuming you know his name. Should things go to court this will save a lot of hassle.

He said he rang and said he had a date he just forgot.

I presumed he meant he told the gardai he had forgotten to get a date and now had one.

You're obviously presuming he lied to the gardai that he always had a date and simply forgot that he had a date when stopped, then procured a date after the event.

His syntax lends itself to either interpretation.

    Glass half-empty much ?

I would read it thathe didn't have a booking when stopped, went home and got a date which was close by, then rang the station and told them he had a date all along but had forgotten about, hoping that the Garda would not think that he was just ignoring the nct requirement.
