logbook not correct

    Hi,

I have been offered a Nissan Skyline 2.5l non-turbo (r33) that seems to be in good order and quite good price as well.

But the problem is that log book says it is a 2.5l turbo, but actually it is 2.5l non-turbo.

Should I just walk away or can the log book be changed to correct details.

How is the insurance, the seller mentioned that r33 non-turbo would not exist in the insurance database.

Also car was originally auto, but now manual with gtr gearbox (if I remember correctly)

I would be interested to maybe buy it, but only if every detail in the paperwork is in order, I do not cut corners in these things.

    Any advice?

    Moi

Sounds like the engine was probably changed at sometime in the past. Does the engine number in VLC match with the current reality.

It will be really difficult to reg that car in Finland, if necessary, if you can't get it a EU vehicle conformity cert (vastaavuudenmukaisuustodistus).

Edit: which you can't get if the engine and rest of the car are not matching. Got almost burnt with that in the past with a motorbike.

    vastaavuudenmukaisuustodistus

Good god. I knew Finnish was complicated, but that's going too far.

    OP, avoid that car.

It sounds like it'll be an insurance nightmare with those mods. Not worth the hassle I reckon unless it's dirt cheap.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Engine number and details are changeable if the engine is changed. But it'd look here as if the engine has been changed and the VLC *not* changed.

This has to be the first case of something being a turbo on logbook and not being a turbo in reality - the exact opposite of virtually every Glanza on donedeal :D

Well, the price is 2k so not too bad for Skyline r33, but I do not want to take risks with these things, no point to pay insurance if you have problem later on with a claim and cars like Skyline are bit pain to insure anyway, so why bother?

And if I decide to take the car to Finland as well, well last thing you want when there is a paperwork that is not in order.

I have not seen the papers for R33, so I am not sure if engine matches with VLC.

You might remember also that I asked about Skyline for a friend,

well yesterday we bought a R34, 2.5l Non-turbo for 3650e so it is definitely good time to buy these cars.

    Kiitos,

I'd be wary ! Could be some kind of cloned car..... Don't think its possible that it has a GTR gearbox as they are 4WD and yours is only two (transfer box issue...) Hot favourite with joy riders !!!

Yes I agree, for me the car does not seem to be that interesting to buy, altough the seller seems to be a sound lad,

But no point to buy problems:)

I have a 2.5 GT Non turbo and have the same problem.
Engine has not been changed, the insurance data base dose not have this car listed.

I have had to insure it as a turbo, no problems but you dont get the discount you should. car makes up for it though you will get over 400K to a tank and most turbo's will get about 130K less than that, also you know the motor will never blow as it is built to take the boost.

In the early days of japanese imports in Ireland there were no non turbo skylines listed so every one that got imported was logged as a turbo.

Also insurance companies don't differenciate between turbo and non turbo, your premium will be the same either way.

With regards to the manual conversion, there is nothing unusual about that on skylines as the auto models were substantially cheaper then the manual ones so many people got an auto and had the conversion done(can be done for less then the price difference between auto and manual)
It won't be a GTR gearbox though.

As far as i believe you can change the engine status in the logbook it just requires a couple of inspections by an engineer of some sort not 100% what kind of engineer presume an automotive or something of the like :) and in the other hand i believe the box and engine were changed probably. due to the choice of the driver it would be strange for an automatic to blow the engine as it doesnt let it rev high....hope i have been of help

    thanks,
    TJ

he could swap the reg's along with the chassis numbers to get his other sky /turbo/ insured as a non turbo and the non turbo one he try to sell with the turbo documents
