Online Backup

Hey, I couldn't find any recent info for this on boards, so thought I'd start a new thread.

Got broken into last week and my wife's laptop was stolen. She had all her data saved on a flash drive which was unfortunately stuck in the laptop at the time.

I do have a network hard drive at home which unfortunately only I use, but one of my mates was broken into last year and they stole his laptop and his time capsule -so this may not be the safest way to back up the data.

I was wondering if there is a (cheap) online backup service for personal use. It doesn't need to be especially secure, but I wouldn't be delighted to see any pictures popping up on google image searches:D.

The simpler it is to use the better (this is the reason there was no backup to the hard disk we already have), and she will be getting a MacbookPro I think so it would need to work with OS X.

    Suggestions appreciated :)

I'm using it on my PC to backup about 60GB of data so far, they have software for MAC and PC.

Theres lots of online backup options, most mentioned already.
    The issue is:
    A. the amount of data you want to back up.
    B. the speed of connection you have.

You'd generally have to be pretty selective about what you want to back up as opposed to a local backup solution.

I've used "SyncBack" (there is a free version) http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/syncback-hub.html
That you can configure to back up your PC whenever a USB/Hardrive is attached.
I keep this device offsite (office) and once a month take it home to backup.
Not foolproof but works for me.

don't think they're free.. but the likes of dropbox, and others, actually use amazon storage. link

    alternatives: http://alternativeto.net/software/dropbox/?profile=windows&platform=windows

[edit] @zagato, for ease of use, i can't recommend dropbox enough. free up to 2GB, but there are other storage services that'll do more. see the link i posted. works for mac.

I encrypt my drives and don't leave the all in the same place. That seemed easier to me.
