A man has suffered hand and facial injuries after it is though he was attacked by a fox as he lay unconscious in a cemetery, police said.

The 37-year-old was found in the grounds of St Michael's Parish Church in Inveresk, near Musselburgh, on Sunday morning.

It is understood the man's nose and two fingers had been bitten off when he was discovered unconscious in the cemetery by police.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Lothian and Borders Police confirmed the injuries looked consistent with an animal attack.

A spokesman said: "Lothian and Borders Police can confirm it is carrying out inquiries after a 37-year-old man was found in the Inveresk area with injuries to his face and hand.

"These injuries may have been caused by animals."

Funny-ish, but not really a shooting sort of thing. I don't think anyone actually yells "It's coming right at us" before shooting foxes these days...
