Eircom Plant Alterations Process.

    My problem,

    Terraced house in town centre ready tobefully demolished. Eircom phone lines run onfront of the house. Also their is a joint box there that 4-5 houses are all connected too.

    Eircom apparently want 340 euro to survey the house. Then they will calculate the cost of works and invoice me for the work!!!. At the end of their Plant relocation process email they have this legal note:

    "The plant and any related infrastructure is the property of Eircom and has been erected and placed in its current location with eircom's legal rights. It follows that the cost of removal of the plant should be paid for by the person who requires it to be moved. Any unauthorised attempts to intefere with eircom plant and related infrastructure will be regarded with the upmost seriousness, and in appropiate cases legal proceedings may be issued against the parties concerned. "

    Any suggestions on my rights or how to go about this would be hugely appreciated.

    340 is a little steep just to survey the house but their staff has to be paid too.

    You are forcing them to make changes to their plant so why should they have to pay for it?

    I wouldn't be so sure of that sb. If it were me Id be writing to them and asking them to produce evidence of the easements they have obtained and to show evidence to back up their claim that the equipment - "has been erected and placed in its current location with eircom's legal rights"

    If that fails (which I doubt) then next port of call would be COMREG.

    Of course if the OP is in a bit of a rush then by all means he should pay up and look happy :)

    My understanding is that the €340 is to deter people from getting Eircom out to survey just for the hell of it.

    The €340 is deducted from any future costs / works that you want carried out. These works and how they are calculated is another issue altogether.

    Had a similar case about getting a pole moved, paid the survey costs which will be deducted from the final bill and got an invoice for moving the pole for €25,500, and they are not budging. The client got onto the local TD who is dealing with the matter :rolleyes: and the standoff is going on 11 months now.

    I had cause to ring them late last year re the rerouting of an overground cable to underground. My survey costs were higher than yours noted, and could not be given a final figure until works complete. Open ended cheque situation really.
    Spoke to a local Eircom tech. and explained my dilema. Without too much detail, problem solved "off the record" so to speak with him.;):P All works complete and everyone happy. Cost me minimal (€60) fee and a cup of coffee.
    Worth talking to a local Eircom tech if you get the chance;);)

    Well yes - but you may simply win a pyrrhic victory . Crapcom can afford to spin the dispute out , and out , and out
