Adding it to the list of channels to consider adding in the future, apparently.

As UPC can't even provide HD to a wast majority of it's customer base, so as with everything else UPC, I wouldn't hold my breath and won't believe it before I see it (Oh, wait a second, I can't get HD)...

Big mistake if they do not carry this.
They are effectively removing themselves of carrying HD for the six nations next year, and any other sporting even the BBC carry. Aside from any spill over I cannot see much staying on BBC HD
I really cannot see why they would not carry this, as to the best of my knowledge it would be a freebie for them
As this change was announced in May I really cannot understand how they could not have prepared for it and anticipated the impacts of the change. I phoned them up and to be honest the staff did not even have a clue that BBC One HD was launching at all.

How would it be a freebie for UPC?

BBC 1 HD is free to air - meaning that its transmission is unencrypted.
In Sky terms - is on of those channels you can tune your box to receive even if you had no Sky subscription.

I am aware of that but it doesn't mean that UPC can carry it free of charge.

UPC have to pay BBC Worldwide for carriage. It's not free. If it was free on foreign cable networks, licence fee payers in the UK would not be happy as the BBC would be missing out on revenue. Same reason why BBC iPlayer is not available outside UK.

I did know that with regards to the Beeb - but of course makes perfect sense.
That said, I still believe it is a mistake for UPC not to attempt to get this one

Agree, it's a no brainer really. Same with UTV HD.

Surprised there's so little interest. Of their HD selection, only BBC and ESPN have regular interest for me. If the BBC dilutes as much as looks likely, I'll have to convince the apartment management committee to install Sky dishes!!
