I am finding it a TAD confusing all the bits about MPEG4, MPEG2, T2, DVB S, etc etc.

I want a box that will pick up HD and SD from satellites and to save space a combo box with a DTT tuner that will pick up the irish dttservice including the new type of text??

Is there such an animal and if I see a box on my online searches what do I look for in the spec??

eg will a spiderbox 9000hd combo do all of the IRISH DTT bit?

    gb--

You need a UK HD combo. The text is essentially same as UK system.

    Spec
    Tuner Terrestrial: DVB-T OR DVB-T2
Tuner Satellite: DVB-S2 (basic DVB-S no good)
video: MPEG4, AVC, H.264 (and MPEG 2 for SD satellite)
Audio: MP2 and AAC stereo. (AC3/DD and AAC surround possibly good idea, but if it does Digital out for a Home Theatre that does AC3/DD and AAC surround )
    Text/Interactive: MHEG5
OTA upgrades: Either Saorview certified or Freesat HD certified or do upgrades manually.

If you are not desparate, wait...

I dont think such a unit actually exists. All combos I have seen are European generic i.e. not Freeview compliant.

windows media centre is the only solution I have seen that ticks every combo saorview and uk satellite box with 7 day guide and mheg5

I don't think it exists. The market is small as there isn't really any need for it in the UK.

I have the ClarkeTech 5100 Combo.

    Have a look here

I can only recommend this receiver.

any htpc front end will do that, it's no specific to WMC, mediaportal, sage tv and more all offer the same.

edit: actually i'll take that back,i'm not sure about mheg5 support in those...must look at that

thing is not many people are going to put a pc under their tv if they are used to a small sat receiver

It is not possible. At least not right now.

You will not see a single channel list combo receiver with MHEG5 (Its on the box for the Triax's but I havent seen anyone say that it actually works).

MHEG5 takes over the channel and epg display of a broadcast when MHEG 5 is present.

Freesat is built on MHEG5. Irish DTT will be built on MHEG5. Different software both written via MHEG5. Only way it could work is similar to the TV combo scenario where you move between the dvb-t tuner and the freesat (dvb-s2) tuner by pressing the source button. Effectively closing off one software and opening another dvb source.

The way around this is a combo linux box which mimics the 7 day epg from freesat and you have the EIT data for dvb-t combined in one via linux apps.

Windows 7 Media Center is the only software I am aware of that supports MHEG5.

yeah, i was forgetting the mheg5 requirement...the rest is easily done alright and supported by any of the front ends

I am not saying Win MC is the answer for everyone just saying its the only combo answer that is fully compatible presently

oh i'm in total agreement, i'm a 7mc user myself, it is an excellent solution, but i do know i have friends who would rather have 4 boxes under their tv with a ton of extra cables, rather than the idea of a single box accomplishing the same, simply because it a pc.

people see a pc under the tv as work, which in the case of a htpc, it can be at times
