    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Spectacular crash :D
It is thought strong crosswinds caused the car to leave the track

They're driving at over 200MPH when there are strong crosswinds?

    Madness...

Hmm, I suspect that dodgy parachute arrangement. Surely it would make the back end go very light very quickly, resulting in just this kind of loss of control.

Nice crash though, never did like orange.

+100, The car did not have a huge spoiler to keep its arse on the road when the parachute opened. It would have lifted the rear and driver lost all steering control.

Why did they even bother with the parachute in the first place, Im sure the standard brakes would have worked just fine:confused::confused:

    Edit: Crosswind???

Yeah right, the traffic cones are all upright and look at -1:13 seecs, the t-shirts being worn dont indicate any strong wind. Breeze, yes, wind, no.

Probably right, but a cross wind would seriously fook things up for him at that speed.

The chute yaws the cars rear to the left in the wind (-52s) then you can see the driver tries to steer against it but the car at this stage is pointing towards the grass/dirt. There is a strong wind blowing you can hear it.

This the YAW effect caused by deploying the chute in a crosswind. The chute may not have caused a lot of lift just enough to lighten the load on the rear.

The parachute created a large amount of drag which would slow the car down, it shouldnt lift anything.

If it opens away from the centre line, sideways (which it looks like it did) it would give an almighty tug to the side though.

The hedge at the side of the runway then provided the lifting power for the tumbling action

Yup, my guess is that the runway wasn't big enough so they decided to botch a parachute onto it.

    Awesome crash!

Problem is not enough downforce at rear IMO. In 'Top Fuel' drag racing (nitromethane) cars can reach 300+ mph from a standing 1/4 mile, 100mph in less than one second and have to use a parachute to stop. Try a search for it on youtube and you will see they all have massive rear spoilers for down force at the rear.

These cars are purpose built for this type of racing. This guy is an amtaeur with money who has modified plenty to go faster but has not put enough thought in to stopping safely.
