Hi There! I'm checking some cars to buy. Since I'm not from here, I'd like some advices on manufacturers and cars.

I'm looking for 8.000 euro cars, my current options are from 04-07 models:

    Renault Megane Hatch
    Renault Clio
    Opel Corsa
    Opel Astra
    Ford Focus
    Ford Fiesta
    Fiat Bravo

Is there anything that I should worry with any of the brands above? I mean, general problems that those car may have. I heard that Renaults break a lot, is that true?

    Cheers

Out of that list i'd go for a Ford Focus.

As for Renaults causing problems, their have being keycard and pencil coil problems.

Fiats have had a history of head gasket problems.

Bring a mechanical minded friend when your inspection any car you pick.

    Good luck.

Thats only on the 1.2l FIRE engines. I rate the Fiat Grande Punto as a good cheap car.

Renault Megane: Anything post the 06 Face lift should be ok and not a bad buy. They upped the quality a lot however I'll not have another owing to a bad experience similarly with the Clio

I've heard of patchy reliability on the Opel Corsa especially with electrics, the astra isn't a bad buy but bland

Fiesta is bland but great to drive

Focus is less bland to look at and great to drive also but the 1.4l is a bit weedy

Personally I'd look at the Fiats as they are cheap and cheap to repair.
